Paul Marriott, the editor, has supplied the following details:

"The weather is getting warmer and drier, the nights are getting lighter and that can only mean that we can look forward to a busy few months of meeting friends, family and getting involved in whatever events are happening in our communities.
And we’ll bring you a flavour of just a few that we’ve come across on the course of our travels.

In this edition of the Lichfield Diocesan Digest we’ll hear about the customs and traditions surrounding this time of year and where they came from.

We’ll look in the history books for the story of Saint Milberga of Wenlock Priory in Shropshire who is described as a princess, abbess and a miracle worker.

And if you’re a fan of knitting and crochet you won’t want to miss the story of the spectacular Longest Yarn exhibition which tells the story of World War Two in the cathedral throughout May.

Add to that news from the parishes, the story of a lesser spotted but edible plant in our churchyards, your letters and what they’re doing to welcome feathered visitors to our shores in Telford.

And in these uncertain times we learn about George Orwell, the man behind the dystopian novel 1984 as well as how a hospital ship is travelling to some of the most deprived parts of the world to bring healing, hope and salvation."

The Diocesan Digest was founded in 1989. It is the Sound Magazine for our Cathedral and the Diocese. It is produced and run by volunteers and is a registered charity - number 702995.

Paul Marriott, the editor, has supplied the following details:

"Easter was early this year. As we know it’s a movable feast but do you know why?

It’s because it is celebrated on the first Sunday after the first full moon on or after the Spring equinox which is March the 21st.

It appears they’ve been arguing over when Easter should be since Emperor Constantine in 325 so I shouldn’t think it’ll be agreed any time soon.

Any road up, we can agree that there is plenty to listen to in the Digest for this month including a very intriguing account of how Shropshire nearly got its own diocese and why it didn’t.

We also hear more about a charity in the Black Country that hands out furniture to people getting back o"n their feet, about a new group supporting clergy who are visually impaired, why a church in Wednesbury is being closed because of double yellow lines and more about a new book that looks at why a woman in the north east of England was interrogated and accused of being a witch simply by being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

All that plus the news from the parishes of the Lichfield Diocese, your letters plus Bishop Michael has announced his retirement - and Butterfly’s. Well it is Spring!"

Paul Marriott, the editor, has supplied the following details:

"The season of Lent and the end of Winter is also in sight and that means we can begin to look forward to Spring, lighter evenings and warmer weather.
And we’re reflecting that spirit of optimism on the Digest as we hear about a new initiative to encourage us to become more interested in churchyards as resources for nature.

We find out how a Black Country charity is helping homeless people back on their feet, learn how new life has been breathed into a group of churches in Wednesbury and we talk to the vicar behind a new outreach group for visually impaired clergy.

All that plus the news from some of the parishes in the Lichfield Diocese, the wider church and also Lichfield Cathedral.

There’s this months pastoral letter, a hymn of the month and your letters."

Paul Marriott, the editor, has supplied the following details:

"As we start a new year we have a lot to look forward to and we hope you will be with us for the journey.

In this edition we round off our look at the traditions of Christmas and the New Year and look at new beginnings with a chat with the incoming Archbishop of Canterbury Dame Sarah Mullally.

We round off the story of the Fenland Oak Table that has been residing inside Lichfield Cathedral since last May and will be there until this coming May.

And we have not one but two stories for you. One is the final instalment of Nigel Oakley's new book Warrior Princess Errant Page and the other is a story aimed at younger listeners called The Grumpy Owl which is also the title of a new picture book telling the Christmas story.

Add to that the news from the parishes of the Lichfield Diocese, a look at the natural world and a pastoral letter and we hope everyone will find something of interest."

Paul Marriott, the editor, has supplied the following details:

"The December edition of the Lichfield Diocesan Digest is a varied programme in which we will hear about the origins of the enormous Fenland Black Oak table that’s currently in Lichfield Cathedral, learn how some of the most well known Christmas traditions came about, and find out more about the infamous witch hunts of Matthew Hopkins, better known as the Witchfinder General who lived in 1645.
On a lighter note we speak to a Staffordshire vicar who has written a musical, hear about some of the events at Lichfield Cathedral over Christmas and look through the news from the parishes.

Is that everything? Well there is more – a Pastoral Letter and the next instalment of our Christmas short story - Warrior Princess Errant Page written by Digest volunteer Nigel Oakley and also available in paperback."

Paul Marriott, the editor, has supplied the following details:
"This month’s edition brings you the fascinating story of the spectacular 13 metre long, 5,000 year old Fenland Black Oak Table that’s currently sitting in Lichfield Cathedral.
We remember the people and communities who were caught up in the largest explosion in mainland Britain that happened in Staffordshire.

There’s an almost unbelievable account of how life was in medieval England that’s being brought to life on stage and have you ever wondered the origins of some of the traditions that mark this time of the year.

Add to that, news from the parishes of the Lichfield Diocese, a Pastoral Letter, what we can expect to see outside our windows in the natural world and the hymn of the month."

Paul Marriott, the editor, has supplied the following details:

"This month we’re in a reflective mood as we stand back to admire some stunning photography as a new exhibition featuring every English cathedral visits Lichfield.

We also hear what is being done to make train travel easier for people with disabilities, admire some truly amazing wildlife photographs, find out what life is like for a football chaplain and have our minds opened to how climate change is altering our coastlines.

Add to that some music courtesy of Peter Howard, the return of the hymn of the month, the parish news and a pastoral letter about money.

Plus the first instalment of Nigel Oakley’s latest book entitled The Warrior Princess Errant Page set in the days when Good King Wenceslas ruled Bohemia."
