Re-viewing the shots from this shoot, and finding some that I'd passed over the first round of editing.

Probably spent 2 hours editing just these three. I guess I work slow...? Or just like to spend time bringing out her dark eyes and dark curls.

It's what I do. I'm an artist.

Look at her hair!

Is she more gorgeous in color, or black and white?

Sometimes b&w highlights the subject better than color, when the subject and background have lots of detail and the subject gets lost in those details.

Yvette Young playing beautiful guitar.

I've listened now about 20 times. Each time I think, How can one person give something that is just exactly and fully what another - someone they don't even know exists - needs and understands? Just exactly what another will recognize?

Hmm. Dunno.

I took a badly needed walk this morning in Northerly Island Park. The sun was hot, the breeze was cool, and I could look around in all directions, at various points along the way, and not see any people or cars or buildings, just bees, butterflies, birds, dragonflies, flowers, trees, rocks and water.

Some of these photos get thirty or forty minutes of editing per image, doing things like isolating the subject from the background so I can adjust subject and background separately. Editing the eyes, lifting them out of shadow and lifting the iris exposure and color slightly. Cropping, straightening, removing people and things in the background.

But so worth it.

Today makes three shoots with Jennifer Franco - . This time, wedding and quinceanera dresses and the models wearing them, plus vendors and family.

I just love shooting models. They're professionals, and know how to make it easy for me.

Potential clients of mine get links in my proposals to some of my work, video and/or photo, whatever's relevant to the project.

Almost always, I include a link to one or both of my demo reels.

Demo reels look simple and short, but only because of the major investment in curating the clips, the music, and of course the final editing.

I'm due for a new reel, since the two on my channel are getting dated. Or at least that's my concern. Every now and then I re-watch them both, to see how they're holding up.

These were shot on my former Camera #1, a Canon 5D Mark III. That camera is a giant in the history of shooting video on a DSLR, professional and amateur. It was used in the final ep of House; scenes in The Mandalorian; the doc The Salt of the Earth; and more.

That's why I can re-watch my demos, and still be so happy with the quality of the video. In fact, I've shot hundreds of hours now on the Canon R6 Mark II, and in some respects prefer the image quality of the 5D.

I'd love to hear some feedback - on the image quality, and my own contributions of framing, interesting-ness, good cuts/bad cuts.

Link to the second demo, in the comments, as well as a link to a list of productions that used the 5D.

Now to make a new, even better demo reel...

Sparrow Smith of The Resonant Rogues, in Milwaukee last weekend.

This is my fave.

I stood on the extreme edges of the stage, trying to be unobtrusive, and shooting with a 35mm prime, so I didn't have much room to maneuver for a closer shot. But after the show they posed for a few shots, and this is one of those.
