In the spring of 2018, a friend who lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico wrote to say, “This is beginning to look like the opening of a new chapter of the Chandi.” Dipak’s focus at the time was climate change, and it’s evident he was clear-sighted: Arctic permafrost is melting and collapsing, pouri...

With A Lightened Heart — Invitation
to Contribute Extended to June 30

You last heard from us in the middle of May. We invited you to contribute something that gladdened your heart or lifted your spirits during this dreadful time.

As noted then, if the doctors and scientists are right, the situation won’t change much anytime soon. The virus and its two-edged effects will be with us for awhile yet. As a bit of an antidote to the continuing gloom, American Vedantist wants to offer some good cheer, and the clarity of clever humor, to our readers.

Please share with us something that, for you, fits that description. It can be something you created, or any work in an art or craft we can publish in AV.* As examples, we send along two pieces — a song by AV’s designer and a poem by your coordinating editor.

Have some fun with this, then send the work on to us! Our extended deadline is Tuesday, June 30.

May you be healthy and cheerful in the days ahead,

Br. Shankara

With A Lightened Heart — An Invitation

Right now, it’s a good bet that most of us would relish anything that gladdens our hearts and lift our spirits.

And, alas, if the doctors and scientists are right, this probably won’t change any time soon. That being the case, let’s see what we can do to cheer one another up!

One of the lessons that novice writers learn is, “Write what you would like to read.” So, the invitation from here is: Send us something you would like to see or hear in American Vedantist.

It can be something of your own, or any work in an art or craft we can publish in AV.* Have some fun with this, then share your fun with us! Our deadline is Saturday, June 20, the solstice which marks the start of summer in the Northern Hemisphere.

Our hope is that AV #77, our Summer 2020 edition, will offer lots more material in the spirit of the two pieces below — a song by AV’s designer and a poem by your coordinating editor.

May you be healthy and cheerful in this time of dreadful transformation,
Br. Shankara

For years I’ve used Wikipedia as a quick resource for information about a very wide range of subjects, from looking up what actors are in a favorite movie, to doing serious research for an article or lecture.
