Chicago Police & the Cook County Prosecutor’s Office have announced charges against 7 kids, including a teen, with the assault of a mother & her son last month.

33-yr-old Corshawnda Hatter had picked up her daughter and 9-yr-old son from Bright Elementary School, when they were followed and brutally attacked by a large group of kids.

One of the kids involved recorded the entire incident, which was posted online and got national attention.

Corshawnda is battling Sickle Cells disease and had just got out the hospital before the assault occurred.

This outraged the community and city, protests and meetings were held at the school, calling for accountability and charges.

Corshawnda says these groups of kids have been bullying her son for about 2 years, sometimes older kids in 8th grade would follow him home, after she brought it to the school’s attention, nothing was being done.

after the video went viral, more families have came forth with videos of their kids getting brutally attacked and bullied by these same groups of kids in their community.

This case has reached celebrities and music artists who wanted to help the family.

After a month long investigation, CPD have decided to charge the 7 minors involved. Three 10yo boys, a 10yo girl, an 11yo girl, a 12yo boy, and a 13yo girl, with battery.

The 22-year-old woman was driving west about 8:20 a.m. in the 200 block of East 103rd Street when someone in another car began shooting at her car, Chicago police said.

She crashed her SUV into a tree while trying to evade the gunshots, police said.

The woman was taken to Trinity Hospital, where she died. A 28-year-old male passenger in her car suffered several injuries and was taken in serious condition to University of Chicago Medical Center, police said.

The driver of the other car fled the scene, police said. No arrests were reported.

Chicago South Loop Fatal Shooting: Suspect in Death of Romeca Meeks Identified as Holly Johnson

CHICAGO — A woman fatally shot Monday morning in the South Loop has been identified as 31-year-old Romeca Meeks, while police have identified the alleged shooter as Holly Johnson, who remains in custody.

According to the Chicago Police Department (CPD), officers responded around 9:35 a.m. on September 8, 2025, to multiple 911 calls reporting gunfire near Cermak Road and State Street.

Investigators said the shooting followed a physical altercation between Meeks and Johnson, who allegedly claimed to possess a valid concealed carry license.

During the dispute, Johnson is accused of pulling out a firearm and shooting Meeks multiple times.

Police said Johnson remained at the scene, where her weapon was recovered, and she was immediately taken into custody.

Witnesses also alleged that Meeks’ child’s father, Carlos Losos Way—who is reportedly subject to an active restraining order—was present during the altercation and placed Meeks in a headlock.

In those moments, Johnson allegedly drew her firearm and fatally shot Meeks at close range.
