NOÖ Journal

NOÖ Journal NOÖ is a free literary journal distributed all over and online. Find us at http://www.noojournal.com. Born in 2005 in W**d, CA.

We publish prose, poetry, pictures, and presentations of independent and small press literature. We put out numbered issues as we can—in print and online—and an occasional guest-edited online-only series that we inaccurately but sentimentally call NOÖ Weekly. Our contributors range from emerging to award-winning, sometimes both. Work first published in NOÖ has won recognition from Best of the Web,

Best of the Net, the Million Writers Award and Best American Nonrequired Reading. Our mission is to serve as a gateway into diverse communities of independent literature and art. To this end, we exhibit:

1) Fiction and poetry that is honest, well-crafted, contemporary, and resonant.

2) Presentations and reviews of independent literature that highlight exciting new work in an approachable and thoughtful critical voice.

3) Visual art of many stripes and flavors from artists who are aware they live today and that other people lived yesterday. Our people are as follows:

Managing Editor: Rachael Katz

Fiction Editors: Gene Kwak and Austin Hayden
Fiction Readers: Paul Hansen and Delaney Nolan

Poetry Editors: Carrie Lorig and Nick Sturm
Poetry Readers: Clare Brown, Paul Glembocki, Steven Perez, Elle Zhang

Editorial Assistant: Blake Bergeron
Publisher / Designer: Mike Young

There is a lot of work going forward, and a lot of mourning going deep, but one of the things we have to do is keep making campfires with people we love. Keep making safe and beautiful spaces for art to rescue people. Look to the history of art and literature under oppression. Be radically present for everyone suppressed, intimidated, violenced, fu**ed over. Be sneaky as s**t. Be surprising with love. Be boring as logs until the light. Be funny with kindness. Be here for the with.

Before the apples mush! Before the footballs crisp! Before the pumpkins blow off the swamps! That's right, it's the final push for NOÖ [17] submissions.

Send us work before Labor Day (9/5), and we'll respond by 9/12.

We're reading for poetry, prose, and presentations! We're peeling for pictures! (Be sure to read the guidelines! Don't be a jerkle!)

NOÖ [17] will herald a cool new website and a bunch of special lead up features: spotlights of new local literary magazines, some special interviews, and more!

Since 2005, NOÖ [17] has been one of the only lit journals published online and FREE in print, spread around in a slick black zine all over in exciting places where people might or might not know about the weird campfire of independent and small press literature, and their first gateway might be your story, your poem, your crispy mush.

Here's where to submit: https://noojournal.submittable.com/submit. Thanks for reading us all these years! We can't wait to read more from YOU!

Love,
Our Editors in Order of the Alphabet:

Austin Hayden in St Louis, MO
RE Katz in Cape Cod, MA
Gene Kwak in Omaha, NE
Carrie Lorig in Atlanta, GA
Nick Sturm in Mobile, AL
Mike Young in Santa Fe, NM

Hey y'all: you can find NOÖ in famed bookstore haunts or academic learning environs (as pictured here) or any other elbow crook of America: coffee shops, town halls, bingo parlors, strip malls, celeb meet-n-greets, etc. Keep looking and we'll keep spreading the gospel.

(Thanks to our friends at Square Books in Oxford, MS, and writer/saint/teacher, Ryan Ridge at the Univ. of Louisville)
