“Of National Importance Records are starting to show that they’re worthy of their name. While focusing on acts in their Barnsley locale, they’ve already managed to seek out bands of an extremely high calibre. There’s also something of a house style emerging, with a leaning toward darker indie with a post-punk edge.” Christopher Nosnibor, Whisperin and Hollerin

"I’d place Lyndon Scarfe’s solo material closer to the IDM genre than the post-punk where he forged his reputation. His own music is downtempo and there’s a fair bit of drone, but it’s also fresh and interesting." Thank you [sic] Magazine for the little review of Lyndon Scarfe's latest Album. http://www.barnsleycivic.co.uk/events/the-royal-photographic-society-international-print-exhibition-159

Music from that very album is also featured in this exhibition at the The Civic, Barnsley which we'd highly recommend if you're Yorkshire based:

The second release from Lyndon Scarfe through ONI Records, and Lyndon's second "fake" soundtrack album, is released today as a digital download. Music for a Lost Film: Volume 2 can be streamed or or downloaded or a "pay what you like" basis via Bandcamp:

https://ofnationalimportancerecords.bandcamp.com/album/music-for-a-lost-film-volume-2

2014's album 'Music for a Lost Film' released via blocsonic - though not officially a soundtrack - was written, created and sequenced with an imaginary film in mind. Repeating motifs and phrases, atmospheric pieces sitting alongside dynamic work, a variety of moods and an ever changing landscape, it was compared in style to the soundtrack work of Cliff Martinez, John Carpenter & Clint Mansell Composer – available to download from www.blocsonic.com/releases/bsog0033

This second volume follows the approach of the first volume but is more focused, with an intentionally narrower range of textures, tones and styles, less obviously an electronic piece and emphasising strings and noise to create a more atmospheric work.

Of National Importance Records is sort of back for a bit! And there's obviously new music...

Layers is an EP of ambient/experimental/electronic music from Lyndon Scarfe guitarist in The Black Lamps and keyboard player for The Danse Society in a former life.

You can download the 3 tracks for free below:

Bandcamp: https://ofnationalimportancerecords.bandcamp.com/album/layers-ep-2
Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/ofnationalimportance/sets/layers-ep

Layers precedes an full album of music from Scarfe (which will be released on the 10th of February through ONIR) and is the follow up to 2014's 'fake' soundtrack album 'Music for a Lost Film'. You can download that and more, for free, from blocSonic here: http://blocsonic.com/releases/bsog0033

Lyndon is also part of the duo [retreat] who's debut material you can find here: https://retreat-music.bandcamp.com/releases

Note: Layers is released under the creative commons licence which basically means you can do whatever you like with it (and if you do, we'd probably like to see/hear it) unless you intend to get rich off it - in which case you should get in touch so we can share the spoils.

LIVE in Barnsley is tomorrow and Aztec Doll will be playing their first gig in an age at The Underground at 7:00. Of the local lot, and in a completely fictitious world where time wouldn't prevent us from doing so, we'd also recommend catching BRUJA (Vouduo at 3:00), Mark Jackson's Criminal Waste of Talent (Walkabout at 6:00), Del Scott Miller (Funky Buddha at 7:00) and Richard Kitson (Igloo at 7:30). From those other places, Bi:Lingual (Digital at 6:30) have got to be one of the most entertaining bands around at the moment. Enjoy. www.liveinbarnsley.co.uk
