I do love a good ruin, me 😎🏰
Our walk from Shipley Bridge to Avon Dam today didn't fail to impress, with the route taking you past the ruins of the former Brentmoor House (also known as Brent Manor).
Previous owners include Francis Meynell, an ex-naval servicemen who also became an artist amusing his retirement, some of his work being displayed today in the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich. Meynell's story brings with it his own personal tragedies, with the death of both his five-year-old daughter Mary and fifteen-month-old son Geoffrey during his five-year ownership of the property.
Brentmoor House later became a youth hostel before being abandoned and demolished in 1968, just over a decade after the completion of the Avon Dam a couple of miles away.
