Typhoon Uwan Weakens into LPA, Leaves Trail of Damage Across Luzon
Typhoon Uwan (international name: Fung-Wong) has officially weakened into a low-pressure area after exiting the Philippine Area of Responsibility early Thursday morning. The storm, which made landfall in Aurora province on Sunday night, affected over 4.6 million Filipinos and left at least 27 dead, according to initial government reports. Catanduanes, one of the hardest-hit provinces, reported damage to more than 25,000 homes. Relief operations are ongoing, with local governments and national agencies distributing food packs and financial aid to displaced families.
Government Distributes ₱95 Million in Aid to Typhoon-Hit Negrenses
Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco and Education Secretary Edgardo Angara led the distribution of presidential assistance in La Carlota City, Negros Occidental. The aid package includes ₱50 million for the province and ₱10 million each for La Carlota, La Castellana, and Moises Padilla. The funds will support rehabilitation efforts following the impact of Typhoons Tino and Uwan.
