Rathalla Review Rathalla Review is a non-profit literary magazine that publishes fiction, creative non-fiction, flash in Creative Writing and M.A. in Publishing programs.

Our mission is to develop a community of writers, artists, and readers through our online and print publications. We also produce monthly podcasts discussing the craft of writing with established authors and blog regularly about related topics. The editorial staff comprises an ensemble of supportive and committed writers and artists currently enrolled in Rosemont College’s M.F.A. Rathalla Review i

s a testament to the partnership between these two programs as we blend the creative arts with the business of publishing and concretely further the program's emphasis to “push to publish.”

Subrina Moorley writes, “I maintained my composure. After all, I brushed twice a day, flossed (almost) every night. I opened wide and smiled with my eyes as latex fingers and blunt instruments prodded inside my mouth. … My mouth was clearly exasperating him. I felt guilty but I didn’t know why. He finally lowered the mask, looked at me as if for the first time. Then he leveled the million-dollar question.”

In “Crossing,” Thaddeus Rutkowski writes, “A small truck—maybe a delivery van —came toward us, and I stepped aside. My wife, however, did not. I put out my arms to hold her back, and the driver honked his horn. My wife stopped and looked up. I kept my arms out, like a crossing guard. And I understood why I had been called, why I had arrived as soon as I could, and why I was accompanying my wife across the street. We were holding onto each other because that was the way to survive.” Read Thaddeus’s piece and more in our Spring 2024 Issue at www.rathallareview.org.

In “Sweaters,” Joel Goldberg writes, “I tapped a section of the monitor that contained a blurred edge. A dialogue bubble suddenly appeared over the section, which read, “A Sweater has been notified: Please stop what you’re doing immediately.”

I paused a moment. A Sweater? But I was told sweaters were forbidden?

I shrugged, then tapped the dialogue bubble closed. Shortly after, a skeletal-thin figure approached along the corridor. My body tensed as I observed his garb: V-neck, merino wool, pumpkin-orange thread. I was certain: He wore a sweater.” Read Joel’s short story and more in our Spring 2024 Issue at www.rathallareview.org.

In “You Shouldn’t Move an Old Tree,” Leen Raats writes, “Jeanne kicked off her shoes and continued dancing barefoot. She seemed to be filling up with light; floating through the room. With a wrinkled finger, she stroked the woodwork of the window. The folds of her skin seemed to coincide with the woodgrains as if they had become one.” Read Leen’s short story and more in our Spring 2024 Issue. Coming in May to www.rathallareview.org.
