Civil service: No going back on screening, retirement, dress code – Delta Govt .

The Delta State government has vowed that it would not reverse the decisions of the screening committee, especially on officers advised to proceed on retirement.
Briefing journalists in Asaba on Monday, the Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, said the screening exercise was designed to sanitize the service and restore integrity.
Speaking on the ongoing screening of civil servants, the government warned it would not condone falsification of age, abuse of leave of absence, or indecent dressing in the workforce.
The commissioner explained that many officials had manipulated their records by presenting unrealistic primary school certificates that made it appear as though they began school immediately after birth.
Aniagwu added that those who had abused leave of absence by staying abroad for years while still drawing salaries from Delta State’s payroll would be removed, with steps taken to recover funds illegally earned.
“If there is anybody that has been advised by the screening committee to retire, government fully supports that decision.
“We cannot continue to accommodate individuals who falsify their age or live abroad while collecting salaries meant for those working here,” Aniagwu said
On the recently re-emphasized dress code for civil servants, Aniagwu said the rules were not new but anchored on provisions of the Civil Service Rules, particularly Section 04314.
He noted that just as every profession has an expected mode of dressing, the civil service requires its workforce to appear decent and corporate.
“When you come to work in spaghetti straps or slippers, you demean the image of the service. The civil service is not a free party where people can dress as they please,” he stressed.
“We are not telling you how to dress at home, in church, or at nightclubs. But during official hours, we expect decency.”
Aniagwu argued that enforcing the dress code was about protecting the image of the government and ensuring respect for public institutions.

Kano Assembly urges govt to strengthen Child Protection Law .

The Kano House of Assembly has urged the state government to strengthen the enforcement of the Child Protection Law to curb child trafficking and forced labour.
This followed a motion raised during plenary on Monday in Kano by Alhaji Sulaiman Ishaq (NNPP-Madobi), presided over by the Speaker, Alhaji Jibril Falgore.
Presenting the motion, Ishaq expressed concern over the rising cases of children being trafficked from Madobi and neighboring areas to serve as domestic workers.
He said that many of the children suffered molestation, hardship, and denial of access to education, citing the case of a girl who went missing after being sent to work as a maid.
The lawmaker stressed the need for the government to either review the Child Protection Law or establish an agency dedicated to protecting children from exploitation.
After deliberations, the assembly unanimously adopted the motion and called on the state government to ensure strict enforcement of the law.
In another motion, the assembly called on the government to provide relief materials to victims of rainfall and windstorms in Rano Local Government Area, which claimed lives and destroyed more than 300 houses and farmlands.
The motion, moved by Alhaji Ibrahim Muhammad (APC-Rano), also noted that the disaster led to the loss of livestock.
Similarly, Alhaji Abdulhamid Abdul (NNPP-Minjibir) moved a motion seeking urgent government intervention for flood victims in Kunya and Kazawa communities, where an Islamiyya school and a mosque were washed away.
The house adopted the motion and urged the state government to constitute a committee to assess the damages and forward recommendations for action.
In another development, Alhaji Zakariyya Ishaq (NNPP-Kura/Garun-Malam) called for the renovation of Government Girls Secondary School, Garun Malam.
Ishaq decried the dilapidated condition of the classrooms, which he said discouraged enrollment and attendance.
The motion was supported by the lawmakers, and the House resolved that urgent renovation works be carried out to restore conducive learning conditions.

Esther Ibeto: Family petitions AIG Zone 2, challenges police involvement in estate administration .

The family of late Esther Ibeto has written the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG, Zone 2, Lagos, over the involvement of the men of the Nigerian Police in the administration of the deceased singer’s estate.
In a petition addressed to the AIG, dated September 11, 2025, and signed by L. O. Okoh, the Administrator of the Estate of the Late Mrs Esther Ibeto, the family expressed concern over the interference of the police in the property dispute.
The administrator urge the AIG to call all the policemen involved in the case to order and allow peace to reign on the property.
The petition read: “On behalf of the family and as Administrator of the Estate of the Late Mrs. Esther Ibeto, I wish to express our deep concern regarding the recent involvement of police officers in matters relating to the administration of the Estate.
“The police are neither beneficiaries nor parties to the Estate. We are therefore surprised and disturbed by the direct interference, including the removal of our staff and workers from the property, which has disrupted the lawful management of the Estate.
“In view of these developments, we respectfully call the attention of the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) to this matter and urge that all officers involved be directed to refrain from further interference, while the family and Administrator complete the administration process in accordance with the law.
“The family maintains its firm position regarding the Estate and reiterates that any person or party wishing to challenge the administration should do so through the proper legal channels, namely the courts, rather than through police intervention.
“Ms. Uche Ibeto is the third child of the Late Mrs Esther Ibeto. She is not the Administrator of the Estate and is not the owner of the property. She has absolutely no legal right, title, or authority to make unilateral claims over the Estate or to parade herself as the owner. Her actions amount to a deliberate usurpation of the powers of the Administrator and are unlawful.
“The property has been sold and the buyer took possession of the property as the rightful and lawful owner.”

Tinubu unable to solve hunger in Nigeria – Atiku warns of revolution .

Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, on Monday decried the high level of hunger among poor Nigerians.

‎Atiku lamented that Nigerians are suffering from poverty under President Bola Tinubu’s administration, which he said seems unable to resolve the problem.

‎In a statement by his Media Aide, Paul Ibe, the former Vice President recalled how poverty and hunger caused revolutions in the Arab world, as well as France wnd Russia.

‎The chieftain of the opposition coalition said there is “no manifest signs that this government is capable of addressing the grim issue of severe hunger staring the poor in the face” after two years in power.

‎Counselling that the current unacceptable situation offers an opportunity for reflection, Atiku cited the “French Revolution, the 1917 Russian Revolution and the Arab Spring in which a young man caught in the maelstrom of unbearable frustration set himself ablaze in a development which occasioned violent socio-political eruptions starting out from Tunisia to engulf the Middle-East and North Africa.”

Boy attacked parents with an axe while they slept because he didnt want to go to school

A 15-year-old boy who launched a brutal axe attack on his parents in United Kingdom while they slept has been detained under the Mental Health Act after admitting attempted murder. The teenager, now 16, attacked his father and mother at their Sussex home in the early hours after spending the night watching television and waiting for them to go to bed. Armed with a large double-handed axe taken from the garage, he struck his father multiple times while he slept, causing at least five skull fractures, a bleed on the brain, and defensive wounds. He then turned on his mother, severing part of her ear and inflicting deep cuts to her face, arm, and thigh. The boy later told police he had planned the attack for some time, saying he believed the axe would be a quick weapon that would only need one blow. He explained that he did not want to go to school, had been severely bullied, and had intended to kill himself. In a diary entry read to Lewes Crown Court, sitting at Brighton, he wrote: I have to kill my parents tonight. Theres no other way. Ill never get better, things will never change and I dont have a choice. Both parents survived the attack after being rushed to hospital. His father sustained six axe wounds to his head and face, with part of his skull embedded in his brain, while his mother suffered multiple lacerations and the partial loss of her ear. The court heard the boy suffers from autism and depressive disorder. During proceedings, he appeared via video link from a secure hospital as his parents, who continue to support him, sat in court with other relatives. Prosecutor Ryan Richter told the court the teenager had admitted wanting to kill his parents before taking his own life so they would not suffer the trauma of his su***de. He said the boy had been open about his hatred of school and his struggles with bullying. The Honourable Mrs Justice Justine Thornton KC said she was satisfied that the boys actions were the result of serious mental illness and ordered him to remain in a secure hospital for treatment and public protection. She noted the familys continued love, describing the boy as a kind, thoughtful and intelligent young man who has experienced significant trauma which led to a breakdown. The court also heard that the boys parents had sought help for his mental health issues before the incident. The post Boy attacked parents with an axe while they slept because he didnt want to go to school appeared first on Linda Ikeji Blog.

Charlie Kirk assassin Tyler Robinson wrote chilling note before shooting - FBI

Federal investigators have linked bombshell evidence to Tyler Robinson, the 22-year-old accused of assassinating conservative activist Charlie Kirk during a university event in Utah. FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed on Monday, September 15, that DNA found on a towel wrapped around the suspected murder weapon, as well as a screwdriver discovered at a snipers nest, matched Robinson. Speaking on Fox News, Patel said investigators also recovered a handwritten note in which Robinson allegedly declared his intent to take out Kirk because of his opposition to the activists political views. Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA, was fatally shot in the neck on September 10 while speaking at Utah Valley University. The high-powered hunting rifle used in the attack was later found in a wooded area nearby. Patel said the note, discovered at Robinsons home, has since been destroyed but was documented with forensic evidence and corroborated during FBI questioning. Robinsons family reportedly told investigators he subscribed to left-wing ideology, and ammunition recovered alongside the rifle was engraved with antifascist slogans. Robinson, who was arrested on Thursday, has so far refused to cooperate with authorities. He is being held under special watch as prosecutors prepare their case. Patel stressed that while the FBI will not speculate on motive, it will continue to present evidence based on facts. Utah Governor Spencer Cox revealed that Robinson joked about his resemblance to images of the suspected gunman in private Discord chats after the assassination. In one exchange, Robinson dismissed suspicions by writing, My doppelgangers trying to get me in trouble. Hours later, his father urged him to surrender, and he was arrested after a family friend alerted police. The shooting, which unfolded before a shocked student audience, marked the first stop of Kirks new campus debate tour. He is survived by his wife, Erika, and their two young children. In the aftermath, President Donald Trump posthumously awarded Kirk the Medal of Freedom and demanded that Robinson face the death penalty. Robinson is scheduled to make his first court appearance on Tuesday. The post Charlie Kirk assassin Tyler Robinson wrote chilling note before shooting - FBI appeared first on Linda Ikeji Blog.

US nears TikTok deal with China

The United States is very close to reaching an agreement with China to resolve the dispute over TikTok, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said on Monday, September 15, as trade talks resumed in Madrid. Bessent and Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng began a new round of discussions on Sunday, aimed at narrowing differences on trade and technology that have weighed heavily on relations between the two largest economies. The negotiations are scheduled to run through Wednesday, the deadline for TikTok to find a non-Chinese buyer or face a US ban. On the TikTok deal itself, were very close to resolving the issue, Bessent told reporters on arrival at Spains foreign ministry for a second day of talks. He stressed that even without a settlement, it doesnt affect the overall relationship between the two countries. Its still very good at the highest levels. TikTok, owned by China-based ByteDance, has faced US scrutiny for years over national security concerns. A federal law requiring its sale or ban was due to take effect the day before Donald Trumps inauguration on January 20. However, the Republican president whose 2024 campaign leaned heavily on social media paused the measure, later extending TikToks deadline by 90 days in June. That extension expires Wednesday. Although Trump initially supported a ban, he reversed course after concluding that TikTok played a role in helping him win young voters in the November election. Beijing, for its part, urged Washington last week to engage on the basis of mutual respect and equal consultations to resolve disputes, calling for dialogue rather than confrontation. The Madrid talks also address Trumps threats of new tariffs on Chinese goods. Earlier this year, tit-for-tat duties surged into triple digits, disrupting global supply chains. Both governments later scaled back, with the US imposing 30 percent tariffs on Chinese imports and Beijing levying 10 percent on US products. But the truce is set to expire in November, and Washington has accused Beijing of slow-walking export license approvals for rare earths, critical to industries ranging from defence to electronics. China, the worlds top rare earth producer, has responded with moves of its own. On Saturday, Beijing announced two investigations into the US semiconductor industry, including an anti-dumping probe into American IC chips and a review of alleged discriminatory practices against Chinese firms. On Monday, Chinese authorities said chip giant Nvidia had breached the countrys antitrust laws and vowed further inquiry, without giving details. The probe adds another flashpoint to the already tense US-China competition for dominance in semiconductors. The flurry of diplomatic and economic exchanges comes amid signals of a possible high-level meeting between Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping. Top defence officials and diplomats from both sides held back-to-back phone calls last week, which analysts say could pave the way for direct talks. Trump has said he expects to visit China later this year or soon afterwards, insisting that despite disputes over TikTok, tariffs and semiconductors, economic relations between Washington and Beijing are on an upward trajectory. The post US nears TikTok deal with China appeared first on Linda Ikeji Blog.
