Mental health is more than just self-care: it's a critical part of well-being that’s built on firm advocacy and community work.
When traditional healthcare is out of reach, nonprofits bridge the gap. Research from the Urban Institute shows these organizations are integral to community care, often providing a wider range of services—from mental health assessments to su***de prevention programs—than for-profit counterparts' range of services. These organizations champion holistic treatment to build healthier, more resilient communities.
Nonprofits have also served as anchors for stability during critical emergencies. Organizations like Project HOPE, StrongMinds, and Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) / Doctors Without Borders have delivered prompt psychosocial services to address the needs of women, children, and families grappling with the aftermath of disasters. Their vital work forms the backbone of recovery; without them, communities would struggle to heal and rebuild their lives.
