These musicians are part of my family. This first shot came up as a memory from 2015 album we all did just a day before a new session with Mariann Megna and Klyph Black and members of the latest group we've formed The Compadres occurred! The Compadres feature Cynthia Daniels James Lawler Arlethia D. Lawler Klyph Black and SteveCollins . The original session featured the East End Wrecking Crew at MonkMusic Recording Studios with James Campagnola Mariann Megna Michael J. LeClerc and Randolph Hudson! And we continue. Making music, as love and food for our souls. Thank you my beautiful, talented family of musicians. Our latest song "Good and Real (so we can heal)" will be out next week.

Guess who stopped by yesterday (with his doppelganger Lou Simon from Sirius-FM)! We've been really cranking at MonkMusic Recording Studios with projects for Inda Eaton, Bella Cuomo, Charlie Lang, J Smith Cameron, Richard Berse, Annie Trezza, and WBAnimation. And that was this past week! Ahh summer has such grace in so many ways. With the ocean nearby, I am pretty darned happy.

When the master pianist, organist and keyboardist Joe Delia Music straps on the bellows and plays the giant harmonica. So sweet, such a vibe. Never forget the 3 "T's" of playing. Anything at all. Touch, tone and technique. Anyone want to offer the 4th "T"?

For the past several weeks I have had the pleasure of mixing Billy Lucas great musical adventure "The Absent-Minded Pirate". It's a Broadway show, it's a stream, it's a movie and a game. The songs are sublime and the orchestration and sounds are complex and perfectly arranged. It's brought me right into that place where I spent every day behind the console with an orchestra for television, film and the just about 100 Broadway and off-Broadway musicals. So many big studios are no longer in NYC, but we keep mixing here at Monkmusic Recording Studios!

It's Grammy time again and I am touched by the memory of Hugh Fordin as he was honored at the awards show during the pandemic, year one. I shared so much music shared with this man, who was the most loyal colleague and friend I could have dreamed of for so many years. Together we made countless albums of Broadway casts, gloriously gifted divas like Dorothy Loudon, Patti LuPone, Barbara Cook, Annie Ross, Ann Hampton Callaway and so many more. I miss you, Hugh, I miss our work. The large orchestras on a daily basis, the late nights with Tommy Tune and Barbara and Wally. Only those who walk in our path know the magic of making a brilliant record. I'll Be Seeing You, before long.

Up today: 10 am downbeat, tracking with The Compradres..a new local collaboration with loads of heart. James Lawler, Joe Delia Music , Cynthia Daniels Klyph Black. And in the afternoon, the awesome Dorian Joseph in for the 7th tune on his upcoming album project . Keep your ears peeled!

2024 has brought us a slew of work, inspiring our crew and motivating us to color outside the lines even as we mix a lot inside the box. During the polar vortex this past weekend, we "re-tuned" the room to get an ever clearer sonic picture of what passes through the speakers and into our ears, helping us make mix decisions that will last a lifetime. Or at least this one. With the help of my favorite mastering engineer and dear friend Alan Silverman of Arf Mastering, Parker and I did some deep listening, frequency sweeping and made some small but significant adjustments to our control room listening environment. Oh yeah, the biggest discovery was positioning Zoey exactly in line on the foam to disperse those short, phasey, first reflections. If anyone needs a glossary, hit us up!

It's been a long road with this talented actor and singer, the great Nathan Lane. We started with a couple of Broadway shows in the '90's and shared the joy and distinction of bringing "The Producers" to life on the Grammy award winning cast album with Matthew Broderick, (Mel Brooks and Susan Stroman)..to name just a few! Yesterday's project was an inspired production, still "under the radar". He looks younger every time I see him. I dress like a teenager. Hmmm.
