Ohafia Mayor Hosts Inaugural LGCF Meeting to Tackle Child Malnutrition

The Executive Mayor of Ohafia LGA, Chief Eleanya Ojuu Kalu, yesterday hosted the maiden meeting of the Local Government Committee on Food and Nutrition (LGCF) in Ohafia Council Headquarters.

The meeting focused on developing effective strategies to address the rising cases of child malnutrition within the local government. Stakeholders deliberated on sustainable interventions, improved nutritional programs, and collaborative efforts aimed at safeguarding the health and well-being of children in Ohafia LGA.

Chief Eleanya reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to prioritizing child health and nutrition, emphasizing that tackling malnutrition is key to building a stronger, healthier future for the community.

Ohafia Mayor Inspects Installation of 55KVA Solar Power Project for Council Headquarters

The Executive Mayor of Ohafia LGA, Chief Eleanya Ojuu Kalu, embarked on an inspection tour of the ongoing construction site for the installation of a 55KVA solar power project designed to provide uninterrupted electricity supply to the entire Council headquarters.

The initiative underscores the Mayor’s commitment to promoting clean energy solutions, reducing dependence on the national grid, and ensuring sustainable power for efficient administration and service delivery in Ohafia LGA.

Chief Eleanya expressed satisfaction with the progress of the project and reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to prioritizing infrastructure that will enhance productivity and improve governance at the grassroots level.

He further emphasized that the solar installation aligns with the broader vision of fostering development through innovative, eco-friendly, and cost-effective solutions.

Mayoress of Ohafia LGA, Hon. Grace Eleanya Ojuu, Empowers Women and Youth Across Communities

The Mayoress of Ohafia Local Government Area, Hon. Grace Eleanya Ojuu, has embarked on a grassroots empowerment program for the three prominent communities in Ohafia LGA - Ohafia, Abiriba, and Nkporo, aimed at completing the outstanding August Meeting activities of the LGA. These includes reaching the widows, petty Traders in each community and meeting with the Trainees for Hair Styling and Make up artists and Sewing

Speaking at the event, Hon. Grace Eleanya expressed gratitude to Her excellency Mrs Priscillia Chidinma Ottih for granting them the opportunity, the platform and enabling her to touch the lives of the women at the grassroots level with the able support of His Excellency Dr Alex Chioma Otti OFR. She expressed her profound gratitude to the key stakeholders and Ohafia LGA indigenes whose support ensured the success of the program, pledging to continue working with them for the progress of the LGA.

She emphasized that the initiative was designed to impact lives positively, with a special focus on widows across the communities, while also creating opportunities for youths to be productively engaged.

As part of her remarks, Hon. Grace Eleanya sensitized women from Ohafia, Abiriba, and Nkporo on the importance of ensuring their children, wards, and relatives above 18 years old obtain their Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs) ahead of the 2027 elections, in order to re-elect His Excellency, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR.

She further charged the women and young beneficiaries of the empowerment program to live up to expectations to learn the skills and extend empowerment within their own circles, thereby helping to reduce unemployment across Ohafia LGA and Abia State at large.

The Executive Mayor of Ohafia LGA, Chief Eleanya Ojuu Kalu, on Friday participated in the inauguration of Local Emergency Management Committees (LEMC) across the 17 Local Government Areas of Abia State. The event, organized by the Abia State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), was aimed at strengthening disaster preparedness and response at the grassroots level.

The Mayor was accompanied by the Head of Service of Ohafia LGA, Mr. Ahunnaya George; the Secretary to Ohafia LGA, Dr. Celestine Ude; and the Mayor's Chief of Staff, Engr. Samuel Onwuka Agbai.

Speaking during the inauguration and training of LEMC members in Umuahia, the Executive Secretary of SEMA, Dr. Sunday Jackson, noted that the frequency and intensity of disasters in Abia State had risen in recent times.

He emphasized that emergency management had become a critical issue requiring adequate preparedness at the local government level to ensure effective and timely response to emergencies.

NNPP Leader Kwankwaso Sets Tough Conditions Before Joining APC

NNPP National Leader Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has finally opened up on what it would take for him to join the ruling APC.

Speaking in Kano, Kwankwaso said he would not accept being “used and dumped” again, stressing that there must be tangible benefits for NNPP members if any merger is to happen.

According to him : “If you want us to join APC, you must show what NNPP will gain. We have candidates in every state, full structures nationwide — what will you offer them?”

He reminded APC leaders that under Buhari’s 8 years, he and his supporters got “nothing, not even appreciation.”

Still, Kwankwaso declared that he is open to talks, but only under strong assurances and promises.

Rufai Oseni Slams Gov. Fubara Over “Peace” Claims

Arise TV anchor Rufai Oseni has taken a swipe at Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, accusing him of celebrating a “peace of the graveyard.”

On his X handle, Rufai suggested that Fubara had been bullied and subdued, according to him “Fubara is celebrating peace of the graveyard, after he has been bullied and subdued. Peace is better than war, he says — play back all his tapes for him.”

This comes after Fubara’s statewide broadcast where he urged Rivers people to reflect on the lessons of the six-month emergency rule, stressing that. “The costliest peace is cheaper than the cheapest war.”

Fubara also claimed he chose cooperation with Tinubu’s government over confrontation, to preserve stability in the state.

Earlier today, the Executive Mayor of Ohafia LGA, Chief Eleanya Ojuu Kalu, received a delegation from the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, led by Hon. Mrs. Magdalene E. U., during a seminar themed “Changing the Narrative at the Local Government Areas for Good Governance.”

In his remarks, the Mayor outlined the achievements recorded under his administration in less than one year. These include:

1. The drilling of solar-powered boreholes in Ohafia, Abiriba, and Nkporo;

2. The ongoing construction of the Ndi-nko Bridge in Nkporo;

3. The retrofitting of primary healthcare centres across Ohafia, Abiriba, and Nkporo; and

4. There's ongoing installation of a 55KVA solar power system to serve the Ohafia Local Government Council headquarters.

5. ⁠Planned construction of 4 Model Evening Markets in the LGA.

6. Retrofitting of Primary Schools in Ohafia, Abiriba and Nkporo respectively.

7. Fencing of Ofali Agwu Smart Secondary School, Amaekpu Ohafia.

8. ⁠Ongoing Restoration of Ndi Eziukwu Ebem Ohafia Erosion site

9. Planned development of Piggery and Poultry Farms in the LGA

He further emphasized his commitment to delivering people-oriented projects and sustaining developmental strides across the LGA.

The seminar also addressed critical issues such as security, cultural preservation, and the need to improve attitudes to work among public servants, with stakeholders resolving to collaborate in advancing good governance at the grassroots.

OHAFIA COUNCIL MAYOR ONCE AGAIN HOSTS REPRESENTATIVE OF GOVERNOR OTTI FOR HANDOVER OF AMAEKPU HEALTH CENTRE

Yesterday, Ohafia Council Mayor, Chief Eleanya Ojuu Kalu, hosted the representative of Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, in the person of Executive Secretary of the Abia State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr. Kalu Ulu Kalu, at the official handover of the newly built Amaekpu Community Health Centre.

Speaking at the event, the Ezieogo of Amaekpu commended Governor Otti and Mayor Eleanya for their commitment to grassroots healthcare, praying that the facility serves its intended purpose.

Dr. Kalu Ulu Kalu stressed the need for community ownership and urged residents to protect and make good use of the centre. Mayor Eleanya, in his remarks, thanked Governor Otti for his health-focused leadership and called on the people of Ohafia to continue supporting his vision for Abia State.
