Roxasnhs Siargao Youth Leaders Undergo Orientation on Disaster Resilience Through Batang Empowered Resilient Team (BERT); Elect First Set of BERT Officers
Roxas National High School empowered its student leaders to take an active role in disaster preparedness by conducting an orientation on the Batang Empowered Resilient Team (BERT) and the election of BERT officers on August 22, 2025 at the TVL Room.
Select Grade 10 students who recently attended the Division wide training and orientation of the BERT led the said event. They were Samantha Jane, John Lester Eriga and Edelyn Parba.
The activity emphasized the importance of youth participation in disaster resilience building, preparing young leaders to lead awareness campaigns, preparedness efforts, and proactive responses in their school and community.
Present during the event were Supreme Secondary Learner Government (SSLG) officers, select officers from different school clubs, and select learners as volunteers, who are expected to cascade their learning and actively support student-led disaster risk reduction initiatives.
Mrs. Catherine U. Alipaspas, SSLG Adviser served as the facilitator as she guides the student-learner resource persons. She also emphasized that empowering students through BERT equips them with the right knowledge and skills on disaster preparedness, while also nurturing responsibility, leadership, and collaboration among the youth.
After the orientation, learner participants elected the first set of BERT officers who will spearhead the implementation of disaster resilience programs and serve as youth frontliners in promoting safety and readiness in times of calamities.
The formation of BERT at Roxas NHS signifies a strong commitment to building a disaster-resilient school community led by empowered and prepared student leaders.
