“I always love the metaphor of shedding skin. There’ll be an inevitable sense of loss about a former version of yourself, but that's what excites me about it.”

A multi-platinum-selling artist shaped by the East Neuk, KT Tunstall is now leaping into her next adventure. It’s been over 20 years since Eye to the Telescope flew off shelves – her debut record, which sold over 5 million copies worldwide. Tunstall was catapulted to fame after she snagged a last-minute spot on Later… With Jools Holland in 2004, and a year later, she had outsold every other female solo artist in the UK.

Seven studio albums on, the singer-songwriter is embarking on her most personal project yet, The Singer – a musical that will premiere at this year’s Edinburgh Fringe – with a new single and tour in the pipeline.

“I really love showing the darker side of female characters”

Gayle Rankin is answering the pull of home. The Scottish actor – who played Cabaret lead Sally Bowles on Broadway and will soon be back on screens as Alys in House of the Dragon – recently starred in The Incomer. Set on a remote Scottish island, the indie feature will open this year’s Edinburgh Film Festival.

Rankin will make her National Theatre of Scotland debut as Edinburgh’s most memorable literary school teacher – the formidable Miss Jean Brodie. A new adaptation of the Muriel Spark novel by David Harrower, the show will open at the capital’s Royal Lyceum Theatre in October before touring Scotland.
