Nightmare Magazine Nightmare is an online horror and dark fantasy magazine edited by Wendy N. Wagner. We believe horror is for everyone! Subscriptions are also available.

Each issue of Nightmare is available on the first of the month as an e-book for all common readers for just $2.99. For those with more patience or without e-readers, we also make our content available FREE to the public over the course of the month, with a new piece released each Wednesday at nightmare-magazine.com. In Nightmare’s pages, you will find all kinds of horror fiction, from zombie stori

es and haunted house tales, to visceral psychological horror. Edited by bestselling anthologist John Joseph Adams, every month Nightmare brings you a mix of originals and reprints, and featuring a variety of authors—from the bestsellers and award-winners you already know to the best new voices you haven’t heard of yet. When you read Nightmare, it is our hope that you’ll see where horror comes from, where it is now, and where it’s going. Nightmare also includes nonfiction, fiction podcasts, and Q&As with our authors that go behind-the-scenes of their stories. Our current publication schedule each month includes two pieces of original fiction and two fiction reprints, along with a feature interview, an artist gallery showcasing our cover artist, and our monthly column about horror, “The H Word.” We publish ebook issues on the first of every month, which are available for sale in ePub format via our website and also available in other formats such as Kindle and Nook. We also offer subscriptions to our ebook edition in a variety of formats; visit our Subscribe page for more details at http://nightmare-magazine.com/subscribe/. Each issue’s contents are also serialized on our website throughout the month, with new features publishing on the first four Wednesdays of every month.

Nightmare will be opening to submissions in January! You can check our guidelines (linked in the comments) for all the dates, times, and details. As ever, writers are welcome to make one submission in each category (short story, flash, poetry, or CNF), and there will be two separate submissions windows (one for BIPOC voices, one unrestricted by identity -- read the entire guidelines page if you have any questions).

New poem up on the site today! Jess Cho says of their poem "Sumbisori":
“Sumbisori” refers to the peculiar exhale of the haenyeo-women divers in the Jeju Province of South Korea. When they surface, they let their breath out as a whistling sound that has always struck me as both a little eerie and a little lonely. It inspired me to examine the intersection between water and air, lingering in that moment before the last breath runs out.
