Special Called Meeting

The Board of County Commissioners for Carter County, Tennessee will meet in a special called emergency session on Wednesday, October 2, 2024 at 7:00 p.m. in the 2nd floor courtroom of the Carter County Courthouse at 801 E. Elk Avenue, Elizabethton, TN 37643. The purpose of the meeting will be for dissemination of official information related to the recent severe weather and flooding in Carter County, consideration of a contract with SCHAUS, LLC for administrative services related to debris cleanup, consideration of any necessary alterations in
the performance of public work during the ongoing emergency response and consideration of all necessary budget related items to appropriate funds and facilitate expenditures related to the disaster response and recovery efforts. Official votes of the Board of County Commissioners and any necessary sub-
committees of the Board of County Commissioners may be made at this meeting to efficiently ensure the health, safety and welfare of the community during this local state of emergency.

Special School board meeting Friday at 9:00 am in regards to the rebuilding of the high school. We want to give a shout-out to the Carter County School Board. Their commitment to secure the safety of the students by canceling school saved many lives last week. If our kids would have been in school the grief we would be feeling in this community would be far worse than it is now. In rebuilding our school, we do not need any school in a flood zone….period and I’m sure everyone in the community would agree.

This announcement was taken from the County Commission meeting last night.

If anyone comes to your residence and identifies themselves as a TEMA or FEMA representative please ask their their credentials. They should have a shirt their respective agency logo on it and they should also have credentials showing whk they are and what agency they are working for. If they do not show you any credentials or refuse to show you them then you can ask them to leave immediately and if they refuse to leave call 9-1-1 and ask for an officer.
