Originally released in 2018, this flew under the radar of most aficionados, was barely promoted. There was turmoil at the time of its release, and along with a couple other Nov 2016 releases that had similar circumstances, we will be having a re-release sale to help the cali wildfire relief effort this friday, and due to putting all leftover stock in storage for the foreseeable future (about to be taking on a travelling lifestyle, no room for boxes of vinyl!)

Following up their Hypehunt released via Random Numbers, Attilio Novellino and Collin McKelvey take us with Métaphysiques cannibales to a further stage of their collaboration – which started in 2014 – adapting to their work some of the key conceptual assumptions of Eduardo Viveiros de Castro’s same titled essay.

Acoustic instruments, analog synthesizers, modular synthesizers and tape recordings have been used in a composing, editing and mixing procedure typical of musique concrète , combined through different steps with electronic processing and granular synthesis. Rather than expressing a rationality that is strictly informed by rules and syntactic procedures, sound organization is here conceived as both as a dispositif of creation and a practice of knowledge: a triggering device to activate a liberatory dynamics to the recognition of mental patterns and new cognitive habits as the first steps of a transition towards a territory that is free from the narcissistic presence of the observer, and therefore immune to the dominant knowledge paradigms.

Sound as a device to subvert the anthropological habitus , which in fact recalls Eduardo Viveiros de Castro’s point towards a “permanent decolonization of thought” by exposing the authenticity of man’s predatory and cannibalistic acting.

pent is an electronic music composer & sound synthesist based in new york city. Her work examines the phenomena of synthetic sound, dissecting and reconstructing how the concept of the “unnatural” replicates the organic world and vice versa.

pent’s cultural framework pulls from computer music, noise, dance music tropes, and 20th century classical to create fluxing immersive sound sculptures that defy realities & transverse stream of consciousness narratives. Her exercises as a sound synthesist are largely in the area of additive synthesis & pulsar synthesis, blending each fields techniques into a model of acoustical simulation that draws environmental sounds into physically impossible territories.

Through these techniques she creates a sonic world that floats between stasis, burst, confusion, distraction, and cohesiveness.

Dovetail
Dovetail are Raub Roy and Dianne Lynn. The duo cultivate improvisational soundscapes through a process of compromise, negotiation, and deep listening. The music draws from a shared love of quasi-repetitive, iterative, and drifting lines/phrases. Dianne plays bass guitar, Raub plays keyboard and mouth speaker, both are complimented by a loop based effects system that gnarls and regurgitates their output, effectively the third member of the band.

Raub is best known for his electroacoustic performances as horaflora, surrounding audiences in a cornucopia of aleatoric and semi-autonomous sound producing objects. He also records as Scy1e, attempting to transmute rhythmic electronic music to fringe variants of perceivable patterns and phrases.

Dianne performs as Nurse Betty. This project takes inspiration from the interrelated systems of the body, interpreting them through capacitive electronics, voice, and field recordings. She also is part of Foot SOS, a trio dedicated to improvisational noise performance.

Sometime in November, shortly after André 3000 released his ambient, jazz, flute, album, and I really do mean shortly after, like I think within a day, I thought it would be a good idea to do a “chopped and screwed“ version of this. I was in the perfect state for it; freshly broken leg, lots of pain, medication, just enough ability to set up my equipment, and then leave it running and let it mulch the original recording… Accordingly.

I released this under a pseudonym and let it quietly sit for a while. Recently, I gave dubbed copies to Andre and his band when they played in Big Sur. I let them know that I would take it down in a moments notice if they simply sent an email. So far I’ve received no such email.

So now I’m pushing my luck. I’ve been making recycled cassette copies of this, and leaving them in the free library outside my house in Oakland. Some folks who have gotten wind of this, but aren’t in the area, asked about having one shipped to them and today I decided to go ahead and make a copy available on the Bandcamp.

These are totally DIY style, recorded onto old 90 minute cassettes that I’ve found, no quality assurance or control. Plus all of that I am sending the main recording out through an FM transmitter and then recording the cassettes off of radio receivers around my house, each one will have a slightly different flavor of fuzz!

Been stuck at home for one month now after breaking my femur on the hood of a car, and finally have a home studio set up. Typically, sessions are hours long, and get to a point where I can sit back and let the thing play, and it does it’s own thing. That’s interesting as it happens, but not really once it’s recorded, I find. I will have a series of edits of these sessions though, of which this is the first - “Like Titanium For Marrow”. .oakland and I will be playing as dovetail on June 8, peacock lounge, lower Haight San Francisco. Dianne is playing bass, I am doing “electroacoustic vocals“ (find out what that is, come to the show!) we are opening, followed by some hard hitting MOFO’s.

There’s something about live drums and electronics; many have attempted, but the bitch has to be just right to pull it off successfully.

This album is in that continuum, and is decidedly the pinnacle of live electronics and acoustic drums

Using arrhythmic/asynchronous/quasi-rhythmic circuits, initially designed for a “free jazz drum machine“ that would have traditionally triggered filter pings, synthesized tones, and glitchy pops and clicks, these rhythmic events were instead routed to a host of mechanical solenoids, which would trigger and play snare, timbales, piano string, crash symbol, and no cowbell.

Other complementary synthesized events were triggered in tandem with these, sometimes asynchronous, sometimes mixed to blend with the acoustic elements.

Recorded at home in the winter of 2022, at a time when conditions were optimal. Until settings of space and time align as such again, this will be the sole document of these experiments.
