Throughout my career, I have made it a priority to pursue advanced training and certification to ensure that I am prepared for the responsibilities of this office.

Serving as Coroner requires sound judgment, experience, and a commitment to ongoing education. Over the years, I have completed extensive training in medicolegal death investigation, forensic procedures, child injury investigation, forensic toxicology, emergency preparedness, and death certification.

I am a Certified Medicolegal Death Investigator in the State of Arkansas and have completed advanced training through the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory, the Arkansas Law Enforcement Training Academy, and Saint Louis University School of Medicine.

This role requires preparation long before the call comes in. Experience, training, and continued education matter when families and our community depend on accuracy and professionalism.

I remain committed to staying prepared and focused on serving the people of Jefferson County.

A lot of folks are saying the latest grocery tax reduction feels small and on its own, that’s fair.

But what’s getting missed is this is the final step of a process that started nearly 20 years ago.

Back in 2007, Governor Mike Beebe and the Arkansas Legislature began the long-term plan to eliminate the grocery tax. It wasn’t done all at once so the state budget could responsibly adjust to the loss of revenue. Instead, lawmakers agreed to phase it out over time.

Here’s the timeline:

• 2007 – First major legislative move to reduce the grocery tax
• 2019 – Tax reduced to 0.125%
• March 2025 – Formal proposal introduced to fully eliminate it
• January 1, 2026 – Complete repeal of the state grocery tax takes effect

So yes, the current reduction may look minimal because it’s the last piece of a plan that’s been steadily working for almost two decades.

This didn’t happen overnight. It happened step by step, on purpose. I think we can all agree we are glad it’s gone.
