25/10/17 | Our Own High School has reached the Nationals for the fourth year running. Hail Warqa'a!

The Our Own football team is a force to reckon with and they've proved that once again. Our Own is the absolute best in the football arena and we've held that position for nearly half a decade! This time was even more special as our coach's untiring efforts and relentless passion were rewarded; Mr. Dany was declared as the "Best Coach", a title no one deserves more! The goalkeeper, Sumant Binil also won the title of "Best Goalkeeper". His keeping skills are the stuff of legend and even the best of players struggle to put goals past him! All of the 18 players played at the highest level and they were expertly led by Alison, the captain of the team.

The team aims to repeat its success at the CBSE Nationals to be held in Uttar Pradesh from 1st November 2017 and we're sure they'll do just that! This team has always been a source of pride for the entire school and the Indian teams better watch out because Our Own is coming!

In September 2017, the first ever Integration Bee was organised at Our Own High School, Al Warqa'a, Dubai. This competition, meant for math students of Grade 12, is an extremely innovative concept and was organised by the math department of the school. Apart from testing a student's skill in integral calculus, the Integration Bee also tests speed and grace under pressure. A highly interesting and competitive competition, it was highly appreciated by students and teachers alike. After five intense rounds, Alister Luiz emerged as the 'Grand Integrator' beating Govind Nambiar in the finals. The Final was graced by our ex-students Sufiyan Munir and Ashwin Ganesan, who were the Chief Guests. It was a huge success and will hopefully become a tradition at Our Own!

'Starlight Express', the musical saw students from Grades 7 to 12 perform with uncompromising energy for 10 dazzling shows that were held over a period of two days. The power packed energetic performances on roller skates with props depicted a young boy's dream of his toy train sets magically coming to life and the various engines competing to become the fastest engine in the world. The musical follows the story of a group of railway trains including Rusty, Greaseball, Coaches and Poppa. The underdog, Rusty the steam train, has little chance until he is inspired by the legend of Starlight Express.
The team of skaters also included five girls from Our Own English School, who enacted as the gleaming coaches on the tracks .
Cultural coordinators Agnelo Paul of OOW and Kevin Oliver of GEMS group were lauded for their efforts in putting up a spectacular show in a short span of time. The participants were full of vigour on both the days.
The show was attended by Mehdar, manager customer service at KHDA; Mohammed Al Suwaidi, head of customer service, KHDA; Anne Waite, senior advisor school improvement; Ashok Mehngi, vice-president, financial reporting and Bloud, vice-president of Indian Schools.

Our Own High School held the Inter-House Debate on the first of May, 2017 for the 9th and 10th grade on the topic “Technology has broken down traditional and social relationship” where the 9th was on the proposition team and 10th on the opposition team. Having such a complex topic in hand, both teams offered very astounding views on it and have seemed to cover every bit of aspect on the topic, bringing the true meaning of ‘Debate’ into the hall filled with couple hundred students. Surprisingly the Inter-House Debate of 2017 ended with all four houses triumphant as Issac winning first for Mars House, Nadim winning second for Saturn and Dev Sagar along with Gowrinand winning Third for Neptune and Jupiter respectively. The Debate session that ran for an hour had a tight competition between the two teams; their confidence and authenticity in their speeches left the crowd stunned.

The investiture ceremony of the prefectural body for the academic year 2017-2018 was held in the school quadrangle on 19th April for seniors. The prestigious event kicked off with the march past of the school leaders. Followed by the recitation of the Holy Quran and the school rose for the UAE and Indian national anthem. Later The Headmistress Ms. Anjuli Murthy involved God’s blessings with a special prayer for the leaders and The Principal Mr. Sanjeev K. Jolly delivered the prefect’s pledge. The Head Boy Vishrut Rana and Deputy Head Boy Hamza Shabbir were invested first which was followed by the investiture of the senior captains and finally, the heart of the team- The Prefects.The investiture ceremony was a celebration of great pomp and joy. We are confident that the newly invested leaders will take our school to greater heights and success.

Despite a series of injuries, the OOHS basketball team has emerged as the runner's up in the CBSE clusters. For the first time in our history, they're set to go to Chhattisgarh, India for the nationals. Show them your support!
