December began the last two months of filming on our studio sets! The first two-ish weeks are lumped into one video here, as our main bts filmer abandoned the crew. (That’s Jordan, aka me, hi guys. 👋)

Jordan had to go home for those two months to work a job and earn money (Which she hadn’t done for the last 10 months as she’d quite her job to work on the film full-time). It’s tough to physically step away from a project for a few months when you’ve been there every day since its inception!

Since she was 1.5 hours away now, she zoomed in on filming days to be scripty and help with continuity. So most of the bts footage from these weeks are just photos or videos from her laptop screen. …So the quality isn’t great. 😬

The guys were left to handle things, and picked up the other tasks she’d been managing; makeup, SFX, feeding people, set dressing, etc.

They managed just fine, though they were now busier, and Jordan still drove back to help out on larger filming days when we had other actors and crew come on set.

At this point it was a count down to losing the studio and having to tear down all of our spaceship sets!

The destruction from filming our rain scene. 😬 If you saw our last video, you saw the flood we created in the studio, filming until 10:30pm.

This is the next morning. The pond had been swept out, but we were left with sand and dirt all over the floods, and a mud pit in front of our green screen.

We had to show the studio to potential new renters the next day, and film on the dirt (dry dirt) in two days.

You can hear the fans on overdrive in the background. The remaining dry sand on our other green screen set came to the rescue just enough to help us out.

Day X16 of NOT filming (=we’renottechnically”filming”cuzwe’reallproducerssorrySAG) principal photography on !

This is the day we flooded our studio. Watch the video for the full story, but we had a rain scene and sprayed hose water at our actors from about 12:30-10:18pm. So, almost 10 hours. No wonder the place flooded.

And no, that time does not count film prep in the morning, or Jordan using a large broom to sweep the lake of water out of the studio after filming, while the actors Tim and Matt warmed up (we filmed in December - being wet and cold in a heatless space for 10 hours is no joke), and Phillip cleaned and saved the camera from any moisture.

It was a LONG day.

And we had about 32 hours to completely clean up the mess for the warehouse to be shown to potential new renters. Our lease was up in 2 months. Tick, tick; the time to finish filming was running out.

Filming a spaceship launch sequence in a set firmly built on a concrete slab comes with some difficulties. Post-production will help make it look much more believable, but in-person it looks like the actor bouncing himself around in a still chair, the props girl wiggles a lantern that’s in-frame, and the grip swiveling lights outside of the window. 😅😂 Movie magic.
