Willi Wessels
1937 - 2022

We are saddened to share the news of Willi Wessels’ passing.
Willi was beloved in the Milwaukee German-American and soccer communities as a player and coach at the Bavarian Soccer Club and as a longtime vocalist with the Johnny Hoffmann & the Herzbuben band.

For five decades, Willi entertained crowds at German-American functions throughout the region, performing with Johnny Hoffmann & the Herzbuben. The band’s annual schedule included German Fest, Oktoberfest at Old Heidelberg Park and at the Schwabenhof, West Bend Oktoberfest, Karneval celebrations, Fathers Day Picnic, Holiday Folk Fair, and many various functions and dances in the German-American community. The Herzbuben band released numerous albums featuring Willi’s vocals.

To his last week of life, Willi was still singing and charming those around him.

Bandleader Johnny Hoffmann passed away earlier this year.
We imagine that Willi and Johnny are now “making music” in heaven.

Willi’s wife of 60 years, Gerda, passed away October 2020, and they are survived by 3 daughters, Rita, Linda and Doris.
