CANCELLATION/SUSPENSION OF CLASSES FOR MAGNITUDE 6.2 EARTHQUAKE
BASED ON EARTHQUAKE INFORMATION NO. 1 ISSUED ON OCTOBER 11, 2025 AND SUCCEEDING EARTHQUAKE NOTIFICATIONS

Per Earthquake Information No. 1 issued on October 11, 2025 โ 10:44 PM by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology:
- At 10:32PM on the 11th of October, 2025, a 6.2 magnitude earthquake occurred 22 kilometers off the shore of Cagwait, Surigao del Sur
- Intensity IV was reported in the City of Davao. Cagwait, and Carmen, Surigao del Sur
- A Tsunami Warning was subsequently issued by PHIVOLCS, including Surigao del Norte, as based on the local tsunami scenario database and data generated by the Rapid Earthquake Damage Assessment System (REDAS), conducted by the Provincial DRRM Operations Center of the Province of Surigao del Norte
Considering the continuing aftershocks and the need for comprehensive structural safety inspections, and in accordance with Executive Order No. 66, s. 2012, DepEd Order No. 22, s. 2024, and relevant provisions of the Local Government Code, the suspension of classes in all levels in both public and private schools across the Province of Surigao del Norte shall remain in effect on October 13, 2025 (Monday).
This determination is undertaken to allow DRRM Focal Persons, engineers, and qualified technical personnel to conduct detailed structural integrity assessments of school buildings and facilities to ensure safety prior to re-occupancy.
AUTOMATIC CANCELLATION CLAUSE
Once a school or academic institution is declared safe to occupy by its designated DRRM Focal Person or a qualified structural assessor, the suspension of classes for that specific institution shall be automatically lifted, and classes may resume immediately upon such verification.
The specific grade levels to resume, as well as the areas or facilities within the institution to be utilized during the resumption of classes, shall be determined at the discretion of the school administration, in coordination with their respective DRRM Focals and Local DRRM Offices.
Institutions found to have sustained structural damage or those requiring further assessment shall remain suspended until formally declared safe for occupancy by competent authorities.
IMPLEMENTATION AND MONITORING
Municipal and City DRRMCs are directed to ensure compliance and facilitate the inspection of all educational institutions within their respective areas of responsibility.
DRRM Focals are advised to submit their inspection and safety status reports to the Provincial DRRM Operations Center by late afternoon of October 13, 2025, for consolidation and provincial reporting.
Emergency response and monitoring operations will continue as aftershocks remain possible.
Everyone is urged to remain vigilant, observe safety protocols, and cooperate with inspection teams and local authorities. Regular updates shall be disseminated through official communication channels, text alerts, and verified social media pages of the Provincial Government.
