For the Tinguaco Foundation, it is a priority objective to contribute to the conservation, preservation and regeneration of the biological heritage of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta and to the quality of life and well-being of indigenous and peasant communities and their other inhabitants. That happens by supporting Mamo and his family in building a decent, healthy, safe and sustainable housing solution. That is why a green building project is underway to allow them to live and work in new buildings.

The Mamo Kuncha belongs to the Arhuaco people. He was born in Mamankana and married Ati Awisama with whom he fathered ten children. He and ten other leaders of his community founded and built the village of Gunmaku until a few years ago he returned to Mamankana as a spiritual retreat, to recover and strengthen from the impact generated by contact with outside cultures: settlers and foreigners. The Mamo and his family need a new place where they can live and preserve their knowledge to the rest of their peers.

The magical Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, located in the Caribbean region of Colombia, has two indigenous reservations: Kogui Malayo and Arhuaco, settled among indelible traces of ancient cultures. These native peoples seek to recover their ancestral territories invaded by a hive of people from almost all regions of the country and other nationalities. During the pandemic, the government elected them a governor's council without their consent, going beyond their traditional forms of election and appointing a person who does not represent the real interests of the Arhuaco people. Now and after the recent turbulent times in Colombia, its spiritual leaders, the Mamos, hope that their voice will be heard by the government.

Tata Meche believes that all the people in the world are connected by the same spirituality. It doesn’t matter if you’re Hindu, Maya, Catholic or Muslim.

“We are the image and likeness of what the universe itself is. The diversity. We are not people that have to stop being, in our case Purépecha, but on the contrary we have to strengthen and affirm our roots. And from there be contributors and have a relationship of Communion with different people and cultures that exist in the world on Earth. Because we are an expression of that diversity, that is universal.”

Tata Meché during his conference at Anarchapulco defending our common origin on the divine, on ancestral spirituality, reconstructing our diverse identities to go back to the roots, to our essence. All different and all together.

Tata Meché (Jose Merce) is one of the spiritual leaders of the people of Cherán, located in the Mexican state of Michoacán, one of the main population centers of the Purépecha people. The particularity of the people of Cherán is that they have their own government, a direct democracy, based on the common good.

In 2011, led by women, an important part of the population of Cherán took up arms to defend against cartels and criminal organizations, but they also expelled the state police and politicians, becoming an independent village.

The mission of Tata Meché is to raise funds to create a municipal library and use culture and knowledge as a unifying element and identity of such a particular population.

2 generations from the city of Varanasi, father and son. The father will pass on all the Ancient knowledge and wisdom he knows to his son, and so the cycle goes with all our tribes around the world.

However, today this cycle is in danger. The youth are losing interest due to the influence of the modern world which encourages them to over-consume and exploit instead.

We need to cherish these cycles and save the loss of valuable Ancient knowledge that has been preserved over hundreds of years and has kept balance in our world up until now.

Varanasi is also known as the city of the dead and the dying, the abode of Lord Shiva – the annihilator and destroyer. It promises moksa (liberation) from the cycle of birth and death to anybody who leaves his body here cremated by the eternal fire, on the banks of the holy river Ganges. Although cremation occurs throughout India, especially all along the Ganges, many sick or elderly people from all over the subcontinent come here to await their end.

Varanasi, situated on the banks of the Ganges, is the spiritual capital of India. Legend has it that the first Siva Jyotirlinga emanated from the earth in this city and flared straight into the sky. This is why Varanasi is also known as Kashi or “the City of Light”. Comprising of as many as 2000 temples, Varanasi is a major hub for pilgrims from various nook and corners of the country. According to popular belief, most of these temples date back to the medieval era.

Apart from the many Hindu temples, it is also known for it's simple yet picturesque lanes. All the essence of India can be captured in them. The stone paved pathways and the continuous fragrance of incense, marigolds, but also the smell of cremations give them a characteristic feel which cannot be experienced in any other city in the world.

Varanasi is the city of the dying where hindus seek for moksha, the final liberation.

On this Earth Day 2021 🌍 we'd like to share a message from the Spiritual Leaders of the Katanzama and Sierra Nevada reserves, which we've had the privilege to interview ourselves.

The message conveys a dark truth of how we humans are mistreating Mother Earth. It calls for a Global Emergency because even at the brink of chaos, the majority of us are still unaware of the over-excessive exploitation we are doing and the risk of losing our one and only home.

Returning to the Ancient ways of living, loving the Earth, respecting and protecting all things with a spirit is essential to save ourselves and the planet.

Believe in the change, be the change.

Another example of rivers as a symbol of the sacred. In hinduism, the Ganges River is a goddess whose waters serve to purify.

Dying and being cremated on the banks of the Ganges, according to the sacred ritual, allows the deceased to purify their sins in its sacred waters and access the Moksha, which definitively interrupts the cycle of reincarnation, through the definitive liberation of the soul. So the pilgrimage to Varanasi to die and being cremated is constant, like the flow of the river.

Rivers are the main source of life. Its water gushes from the earth to end up in the oceans and thus begins an endless life cycle.

Many tribes confer to the rivers as the miracles of creation. For example, Piatsaw, the creator spirit of Saparas imagined the world and the world became reality. He created the jungle, the mountains, the water and gave life to two red monkeys. Male and female bathed in the Conambo River and gradually lost their tails. They started walking on two feet and turned into human beings.
