I am a public school teacher that supports banning the use of cell phones during instruction times in public schools because it is a major distraction in the classroom that has a large impact on students' learning, concentration, and test scores.

Research shows that students who are distracted by cell phones perform worse academically (source: Journal of Educational Psychology). By eliminating this distraction, we can create a more focused and effective learning environment for our children. Please sign this petition to help improve education in Kentucky schools!

Bill Hamilton, MPCPMP Executive Board member, responds to a comment during a discussion of Chinua Achebe’s novel “Things Fall Apart” at the Louisville (KY) Free Public Library on October 20. Achebe’s landmark book was the first narrative about Igbo culture and tradition to be written in English by a Nigerian. Through his characters and setting, Achebe shows how colonial rule, including the transatlantic human trade, brought about the destruction of many traditional systems in his homeland.
