Check out this 2-minute film that challenges the Egyptian ID card. It often blocks women, young adults and minorities from access to public life. Human rights groups have asked for the removal of religion from the ID card. If Egypt is serious about creating a peaceful and prosperous future, isn't time to remove religion from Egypt's ID cards to everyone can fully participate in society? Bottom line: Egyptians are Egyptians - No Matter their faith.

I recently visited Egypt and learned that Egyptians are Egyptians — No Matter their Faith. As a result I produced a short film that seeks to shed light on the challenges faced by Egyptians whose religious identity does not align with the state. Though Egypt’s constitution affirms the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the national ID card system — required for essential services like education, employment, and banking — forces citizens to declare one of only three recognized religions: Islam, Christianity, or Judaism. This restriction disproportionately affects women, youth, and religious minorities, reinforcing social exclusion and denying the freedom of belief. The film calls for the elimination of religious affiliation from ID cards, arguing that true progress and unity in Egypt will only come when all citizens are treated equally — regardless of faith.

13 Feb, 2025: Our brave advocates successfully conducted Live What You Believe film festival, in collaboration with Empower Women Media and Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University, Peshawar. This festival aimed to empower women students by educating them about women's empowerment and religious freedom.

During the event, we screened four Live What You Believe films, showcasing the importance of religious freedom for peace, security, women's empowerment, and business innovation. These screenings were followed by Q&A sessions, where students shared their thoughts on the films. We also screened winning documentaries from Pakistan.

Additionally, we hosted a panel discussion, inviting Subhash Chander to speak about empowering people from different faiths through entrepreneurship and bridging gaps between religious communities. Laiba Hussan, a young woman journalist, discussed the challenges she faced and how to overcome them, as well as the importance of inclusive storytelling. Roshana Waqas, a freelance journalist and editor, emphasized the significance of commitment to one's work.

I am grateful to my department teachers for their support in organizing this event and to all the students who participated and shared their experiences.

Just back from the Middle East where we hosted a historic women-led multi-faith forum to promote peace among the Abrahamic faiths. The forum offered a one day inter-faith certificate training for professionals and a one day excursion to the Abrahamic Family House in Abu-Dhabi.

We are grateful to the UAE for their courage to advance co-existence and inter-religious harmony to make their country a safe space for all peoples.

Below you will find the press release of the Dubai Forum to support the Abraham Accords.
