Did anyone attend Story Trails as part of our ? Beccy led us from the Library around Castleford to hear her stories from our past. We started off hearing about coach trips to the seaside from Working Men’s Clubs, we then went to look at where the Roman Fort was overseen by the Roman soldier at the bottom of Bank Street. We imagined the scale of the settlement and what Castleford folk must have felt about the Roman’s coming to our town Crossing the river footbridge, we heard about myths and legends related to our river. Finally we returned along Sagar Street, but nobody saw any ghostly goings on, well not in our group at least!

A very warm welcome awaited us at our second event at Castleford Parish Church. We heard all about the John Skeaping RA statues and how they came to Castleford from John Ladley, the Churchwarden. Thank you to everyone who made us most welcome with refreshments and cakes.

Our first event for saw us looking at the Jon Skeaping RN tiles at the beautifully restored Grange School, formerly Whitwood Mere School. We were provided with a talk on the history of the tiles and the school by David Pickersgill, a local historian and member of Castleford Civic Society. We were grateful to the school for their welcome and for allowing us to see inside for ourselves the wonderful restoration of this building as well.
