Following the Eaton Fire, at least half of the homes sold in Altadena, California, have been purchased by corporations, sparking concern among residents about the erasure of the community’s historic character.

Companies like Black Lion Properties, linked to Powerball winner Edwin Castro, and several L.A.-based developers have spent millions acquiring distressed, fire-damaged lots, some owning four or more properties each.

Local advocates warn that these rapid acquisitions could displace long-time families and urge sellers to consider individual or family buyers to help preserve the neighborhood’s identity.
