Still looking for an unconventional Christmas gift? Or just looking for something to help escape from the forced positivity of the festive period? The Dark Scene 500, the book exploring the history of gothic, industrial, EBM and darkwave both through and beyond the scope of the more established texts might be what you're after.

If you wondered what happened to gothic rock after the Sisters of Mercy got mired in label disputes, where industrial went after Throbbing Gristle declared their Mission Terminated, what happen to EBM after Front 242 finally managed to catch the man or just looking for suggestions for your playlists that go beyond the established hits, there's something in this book for you.

The Dark Scene 500 is still available, and at time of posting there's time to get it sent in time for Christmas. An EPUB version is also available for those looking to save on space and/or shipping costs. All purchase options are listed here:

The Dark Scene 500 The Dark Scene 500 is the culmination of four years work to write a book about dark scene music, from the earliest sounds of gothic and industrial, the rise and fall of its commercial appeal, it’s decades of relative obscurity, the numerous subgenres it inspired, through to its ...

The Dark Scene 500 EPUB is now on a number of EBook stores - Amazon, Google and Apple Books as well as downloadable directly from my site, so options are available for all common devices. There's still plenty of printed copies available, too - purchase from Ebay or the store on terminateshere.org.

The Dark Scene 500 is now for sale within it’s own store on terminateshere.org

https://terminateshere.org/the-dark-scene-500

This includes the EPUB version which is now on general sale at GBP 7.50 worldwide. This should be a competitive option for interested readers outside of Europe, as there are few economical shipping options available for books of this size.

I’m working on getting the EPUB and possibly the printed version listed on other stores. As both books have an ISBN and are in print, some stores are listing it anyway, but please only purchase it from sources listed on terminateshere.org to prevent delays in delivery.

Thank you to everyone who has supported the Dark Scene 500 in recent weeks. Sales of the printed book have gone well and many of you have now bought one, but there's plenty of copies left.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/257143449817

I'm currently trying to launch the EPUB version and also get the physical version listed on other stores. This inevitably involves registration, awaiting approvals and other jumping-through-hoop processes. More news when listings are confirmed.

In terms of selling the book in person, plans are in early stages but hopefully a few opportunities will crop up before the year is out.

The story is told through an analysis of 500 of the scenes most notable, influential and popular songs. Others are relatively obscure, instead pioneering techniques that would later inspire other musicians to build on their ideas and create new styles of music.

The pre-ordered copies of The Dark Scene 500 have been sent out, with the exception of a few addresses I still need to confirm - if you haven't heard from me, check your email (including spam) to see if there's any messages waiting for you. All deliveries are tracked so if any go missing we can check where they are in the system.

The printed version of the book is now available for sale. All purchase options will be listed here:

https://terminateshere.org/the-dark-scene-500

Currently available using Ebay (mainly because I'm already an established seller there) but other options will be made available in the coming days. Price is £20 inc postage for the UK, with prices adjusted for overseas sales.

If anyone needs a more cost-effective option, an Ebook EPUB version is coming in a few weeks time.

There may be some opportunities to purchase the book in person, although these events are a few months away.

The Dark Scene 500 has been printed and delivered - here's the next steps.

Over the course of the next week, I'll be sending out copies to everyone who pre-ordered through the Crowdfunder. The librarians amongst you can be assured that a copy will also be legally deposited in the British Library (this being something of a "victory condition" for me).

Once these books have been sent out, I'll make it available for general sale. There's enough copies to go around and I'll make sure multiple methods of purchase are available.

The EBook version has just been signed off - this will be released shortly after the printed version. This may be a suitable alternative for those of you outside of Europe (as postage isn't cheap) as well as those who have gone all-digital.

As it's a self-published affair, I don't have the assistance of a distributor, so if anyone has any suggestions for good places to sell or promote the book, please let get in touch. I have a few plans up my sleeve but more ideas would always be welcome. A few online zines have shown interest in reviewing the work, but I'm open to requests from others who'd like to cast a critical eye over it.

And enjoy the book! I've purposely gone for a writing style that presents music as something to be enjoyed first and analysed thereafter. If it achieves nothing else, I hope it inspires more music writers to pick up on the styles and eras covered within.

The Crowdfunding Stage for The Dark Scene 500 is now complete. We didn't quite make our target, but this wasn't an 'All or Nothing' crowdfund, and we got close enough to continue as originally planned.

Thank you to everyone who supported the project, by contributing themselves and/or sharing the link and encouraging others to check it out. I'll be getting in touch with everyone who selected an 'Audience Participation' reward shortly to arrange details. This will be the final content before the book goes for typesetting and then printing. I'm talking to the typesetter tomorrow to arrange next steps and agree timescales.

For those of you who weren't able to contribute at this time, don't worry - the book will be available for sale once published - ebook or printed options are planned. For now, my focus is on getting this project over the line.

Last call for The Dark Scene 500 crowdfunder - there's a little over 24 hours to go. The story of the scene told through its most notable songs - from the early-era classics to many of the bands playing at places like Amphi this weekend - including many not even acknowledged by scene histories already in print.

There are still some rewards to claim - these end tomorrow. After this, my focus turns to getting this ready to print.

Thank you to everyone who helped by pledging support and/or spreading the work in recent weeks.

For those of you still trying to make your minds up about this project - you might be wondering what makes this book different from the many others released recently. Here's some of the unique selling points:

- We're not just focusing on one or two subgenres - the book covers as wide as possible array of scene music as it's possible to fit in a single volume. Whether you like EBM, extreme noise, darkwave, club-oriented industrial or just good old-fashioned goth, there's something here for you.

- Neither are we just focusing on the 'golden age' of goth or industrial (late 70s to early 90s) - the book covers music right through to the 2020s, including many styles and era disregarded by mainstream music journalism, and many project from outside the UK and USA, the countries traditionally dominating English-language music writing.

- The book has been written to appeal to a wide an audience as possible with a quickfire writing style making it easy to dip and out. It's not an academic study, instead treating music as something to be enjoyed!

There's still enough time to claim a reward....

The Dark Scene 500 is a book telling the story of the gothic, industrial and related styles through its most notable and influential songs.
