In this time of generation where misinformation, misconception, and fake news are abundant in the society, journalists needs to have a voice that cuts through. Every issue, every article, every word is written by students behind the gear, for studentsโ€”with purpose, passion, and power. It is a journalism that is not just about reporting.

It is resisting silence.
rewriting narratives.
reclaiming space and dignity.

Every headline, we speak truth: to empower. Through every issue, we reflect who we are: bold, unapologetic, honest, and with integrity.

This is The Mechanics, empowering truth, writing with power, and preserving the moral of a good story-telling.

'Di man madali, โ€˜di man dire-diretso,
Ang makapagtapos โ€” 'yon ang goal, 'yon ang boto.

Alam kong bawat likoโ€™t lubak ay bahagi

At sa cram mode na buong gabiโ€™t umaga.

At sa prof na โ€˜di mo gets kahit may discussion.

At tuwing mapagodโ€”pahinga lang, โ€˜walang susuko, โ€˜di ba?

May linyang โ€œPara po!

Kundi โ€˜yung tapang, tiyaga, at pusong palaban

Kaya't sabay nating sabihing walang pag-aalinlangan:

๐—ข๐—ฃ๐—œ๐—ก๐—œ๐—ข๐—ก | University Dormitories and Housing: Whatโ€™s There to Improve?

Studying and fending off to live on your own is already a tedious task to do and maintain, so the least we can do is to make it more conducive for everyone, especially for students.

Over the start of the academic year 2025-2026, students have since settled back into their respective dormitories. Studying in college is nearly synonymous to moving out, as many universities are either located several cities away from the majority of their studentsโ€™ hometowns, thus, the need for temporary shelters until the end of the academic year is imperative.

Temporary shelters take on many forms, but the go-to option for the majority of students are dorms, boarding houses, and apartments. However, since many students are unable to afford boarding houses or apartments due to budget constraints, most of them prefer to live in university dormitories. This is also true in Central Luzon State University: for a campus spanning hundreds of hectares, living in dorms is most preferred due to its convenience and cost-efficiency.

The universityโ€™s housing services are not devoid of flaws, despite their positives. Upon imploring some dorm residentsโ€˜ feedback and suggestions for housing improvement, certain concerns were most highlighted amongst their responses. The most common request is for the implementation of a ๐—ฐ๐—ผ๐—บ๐—บ๐˜‚๐—ป๐—ถ๐˜๐˜† ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐—ณ๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐—ด๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป ๐—ณ๐—ฎ๐—ฐ๐—ถ๐—น๐—ถ๐˜๐˜†, a storage of perishable goods. While the university does provide food supplies through markets and eateries within the university, many students prefer to bring their own food supply to further budget their allowances. Due to the absence of refrigerating appliances, however, food supplies are often limited to nonperishables such as canned goods and packed noodles, since these supplies can last for a long period of time without spoiling. CLSU equals Canton Lang Sa Umaga; but such food supplies are known to render health side effects if consumed continuously without variety. A community refrigeration system will help such problems as students would be able to bring perishable food supplies like vegetables, frozen food, and even meat. In that way, students would be able to expand their food supply variety beyond just canned goods and noodles, provided that each dorm has a cooking facility.

Another common suggestion is the addition of a ๐—ฐ๐—ผ๐—บ๐—บ๐—ผ๐—ป ๐˜„๐—ฎ๐˜€๐—ต๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด ๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐—ฎ provided with washing machines or dryers. Clean clothes are a necessity for everyone, but students usually find it difficult to insert washing time into their schedules, therefore resorting to laundry shops, and ultimately creating yet another burden for their expenses. On the other hand, students that opt to wash their clothes may find it difficult and time consuming since they would have to hand wash and air dry each article of clothing. Adding a washing area and washing facilities will wash time for students, especially for those whose college programs require them to wear uniforms.

Improvement of other facilities like internet services and rehabilitation of old rooms and lockers, as well as improved ventilation in dorms, must also be carefully considered, given that many dorms on campus are prone to major problems such as lack of ventilation, flooding, and dripping ceilings. Following the recent fire disaster that took place at the Ladiesโ€™ Dorm 7, student dormers have since called for structural inspections to ensure that dormitories are up to regulatory standards in order to prevent such incidents from recurring.

Though material improvements are most coveted, there also exist calls to reflect on the system inside dormitories, particularly on the ๐—ฒ๐˜… The current curfew hours for dorm residents are 5 AM to 8 PM, respectivelyโ€” while these curfew hours seem reasonable and are proactively observed to ensure safety, it undermines the fact that some students tend to lose track of time due to their workload. In turn, many dormers struggle to meet these established hours, and they sometimes have to sacrifice personal arrangements or even dinner just to comply with these time constraints. Also, the majority of the events in the university last over the curfew hours, thus, some students arenโ€™t given the space to fully enjoy such events and activities without worrying about the curfew. By extending the curfew by a considerable length, the students will have more liberty in terms of time restraints while also keeping them safe.

Due to continuous SUC budget cuts, it is understandable that the universityโ€™s housing services may not be able to fully cater to all studentsโ€™ needs. In fact, CLSU themselves are aware of this, following the approval of Board Resolution No. 10, which evidently presents itself as a coping measure to improve and maintain housing on campus. Previously priced at rates for as low as โ‚ฑ900 per semester, dorm fees have since bubbled up to a staggering 50% increase as housing rates now start at โ‚ฑ1,350 per semester. Ultimately, it is no one but the students and their parents that will have to shoulder this hefty increase, so the university should allocate these funds adequately in order to make living conditions more conducive and comfortable for students. Additional facilities result in additional fees, but I think students would still appreciate them despite the additional payments since it gives them more comfort and liberty.

Studentsโ€™ living conditions, arguably, hold the largest impact on their academic performance along with their general well-being, which is why improving the university dormitories for a more conducive and comfortable abode would be much appreciated, both by old and new students.

Sa temang โ€œCENSILYO 2025: A Tribute of Worth, A Token of Change,โ€ pinarangalan ng Kolehiyo ng Inhinyeriya ng Central Luzon State University ang 320 na magsisipagtapos sa isinagawang taunang pagpupugay noong Hulyo 21, 2025, sa CLSU Auditorium, eksaktong ala-una ng hapon kasabay ng pagmamartsa, kasama ang kanilang mga magulang at mahal sa buhay.

Joseph Frank A. Nagal ng Department of Civil Engineering, at Dr. Angela C. Tolentino ng Department of Information Technology.

โ€œAfter graduationโ€”no grade requirements, no entrance exam. Only skills and communication abilities. Discipline, teamwork, loyalty, and a strong sense of duty must be observed,โ€ aniya.

Dagdag pa niya, โ€œLead with compassion and kindness, maintain integrity, take care of your health, be honest and act according to your moral values, and do not forget to look back on whatever you achieve in the future.โ€
