Operating since 2019, Fantastic Mess Records (FMR) is an independent and boutique record label that supports independent Australian artists on both the 7” and LP Vinyl format, with limited-edit

ion releases that always feature previously unreleased and lost tracks. The label is also focused on delving deep into the archives of Punk/New Wave/Indie Pop/Garage Rock’n’Roll and Experimental Noise Rock to offer up songs that have been recorded and mostly forgotten, by bands and singers who existed but flew too far under the radar to make their mark in their active eras. FMR digs into the stories of the bands and people involved and offers up artwork, photos, detailed notes and lost ephemera from the period, whether it be the 70’s, 80’s or 90’s. Care is taken with audio restoration and packaging, while all records are hand-numbered in micro-editions on colour vinyl with an array of inserts and often placed in custom-made jackets.

2020-2021 will be a very active time of discography building and diverse releases as the label takes shape and momentum grows. Before the birth of FMR, its founder Scotti Henthorn was a big part of contemporaneous record label Buttercup Records, where he helped to release approximately 50 LP’s and 7” records.

Last week's sad news of the passing of Mia Stone has hit those who were in her orbit both personally and from a fan perspective hard. For me, Mia was a singer and musician who I have looked up to as an inspiration for many decades, from being blown away by Stone Circus and then the discovery of The Pizza S***s and then being able to witness Satellite in a live setting and on CD.

I saw a show of hers in Prahran in the 90's which was SO incredibly mesmerising, powerful, spiritually uplifting and wild that it is etched in my memory as one of my fave shows of all time. She was also fortunate enough to have great players and people behind her so those who drummed and played guitars etc.. across her musical career should be celebrated boldly also. There were the many Janis Joplin comparisons, the ra**ch and s*x of her dress and delivery and that soaring VOICE that could totally raise a roof, which came from deep within and had projection like no other singer I have witnessed since in a live setting.

There has long been moves in the background for a FMR compilation of bands Mia has been involved with so hopefully one day, with all her friends and family on board this could be a thing.. I know that it would be a fitting tribute to an amazing singer and strong presence on the Australian Independent scene across multiple decades and may we at this time appreciate and admire both the woman she was and the music that she left in the world.

There is one song that is available via this site of the mighty STONE CIRCUS on Vinyl, that being the killer cut 'Arnold's Day' recorded on Aug 27th 1990 and released as part of Issue #5 of my then fanzine 'Resistant Harmony' in 1992. Only a few of the 7" remain after those 30+ years and it remains a fave of mine for sure. A raw, explosive talent with sass, power, and a unique ability to be able to send an audience into an almost trance like state. Wow ! what a dynamic musician Mia was and may we continue to celebrate, explore and enjoy the music that she and her awesome band members left us across that journey, from the inner city dark haunts to the Alpine region of North East Victoria. She's one of my music heroes and that is locked in for life!

And also we mention the passing of Honest John Plain of THE BOYS this week and celebrate a wild ride of a life in music and friendship of his close band pals and hundreds of fans around the world.

It's been over 45 years since these tracks have been on 7” vinyl, It’s one of the UK’s most awesome proponents of classic power pop punk… THE BOYS.

This Limited Aussie release features the killer A side of ‘Kamikaze’, with ‘Bad Day’ on the flip, taken from their excellent 1979 album “To Hell with the Boys”. A back on the radar reminder of how great this band was (and is) with deep extensive liner notes and two stickers across THREE COOL COLOURS… Red with Black, Translucent Yellow and Silver (100 copies of each). Hand Numbered out of 300 copies and a one off press.

UK/Euro customers: There are copies available now from the band direct if you email [email protected]

If not you can get them from me direct but be aware that for one 7” Airmail to you will be around 23 pound or 26 Euro.. So bear that in mind.

Options to buy each colour or ONE SET OF THREE. Anyone who does so will get sequential numbers… ie: #26 Red, #126 Yellow, # 226 Silver (you dig?) Just so you have a bit of order in your 7” purchasing.

Fantastic Mess Records 034 - Another incredible band to come outta the United Kingdom with a discography of great songs and a history worth revisiting and respecting in a major way.

Write notes to me at Checkout (I like those) and enjoy this release,
