The radar update shows an area of rain with embedded thunderstorms moving east-northeast. The heaviest rainfall rates of 2-5"/hour will move into Lawrence County, PA shortly. Localized flooding is possible, particularly in poor drainage or urban areas. Do not drive across flooded roads!

The National Weather Service in Pittsburgh has issued a

Flash Flood Warning for... Northeastern Allegheny County in southwestern Pennsylvania... Southeastern Butler County in west central Pennsylvania...

Until 900 PM EDT.

At 706 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 0.5 and 1 inch of rain has fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 1.5 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.

HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Ross Township, McCandless Township, Cranberry, Franklin Park, Shaler Township, Hampton Township, Harrison Township, Economy, Wexford, Seven Fields, Gibsonia, Sarver, Mars, Saxonburg, Russellton, Bradfordwoods, Curtisville, Valencia, Callery and Pine Township.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.

Please report observed flooding to local emergency services or law enforcement and request they pass this information to the National Weather Service when you can do so safely.

6:15pm Radar Update:
Interactions between thunderstorms means the focus for potential flash flooding and damaging wind gusts will stretch across west central PA through 8pm. Storms should start weakening thereafter, but it is best to remain alert to changing conditions.
