What does it take to become a CNN Hero of the Year?

Try giving up your lucrative and comfortable job in a veterinary clinic and starting a non-profit to care for the pets of the unhoused.

Project Street Vet founder Dr. Kwane Stewart shares his remarkable journey with me on The Art of Excellence.

This is what I call living a life of purpose. If you haven't found yours, it's never too late.

I had a really nice chat with best-selling writer Dean Koontz. You'd think when you've sold over 500 million books, everything would come easy. But Dean might spend all day cranking away at the keyboard just to get one page done.

And he'll often rewrite each page up to 17 times to get it right. It takes tremendous effort even for a prolific writer like Dean.

Despite his success, he still has plenty of self-doubt. He has just learned how to work through it.

"Focus on today and tomorrow will take care of itself." - James Lawrence, aka Iron Cowboy

James did the unthinkable. He completed 100 full distance (i.e. Ironman length) triathlons over 100 consecutive days. That's not a typo.

While it's an extraordinary accomplishment, James is the first to admit that he has no special genetic gifts. Just a simple man with a plan and a lot of willpower.

During my interview with James on The Art of Excellence, I heard a number of valuable lessons about achieving goals I can apply in my own life. Maybe you can too.

A fun but interesting illustration of what Prof Adam Galinsky calls the Leader Amplification Effect. Essentially, everything you say and do gets amplified when you're in a leadership position. If you're interested in the ingredients of inspiring leaders and how you can become more visionary yourself, check out my interview with Adam on The Art of Excellence. Who's afraid of the big bad wolf? Not wildlife biologist Diane Boyd. She has spent her career working to protect this once endangered species. You can listen to her story and the story of these intelligent and majestic creatures who in some ways are quite similar to humans, as she proclaims. What if I told you there were a scientifically proven way to boost our sense of happiness and well-being? I had a wonderful interview with Yale psychology professor Dr. Laurie Santos. Laurie is a Yale professor of psychology and teaches the most popular class in the history of Yale. It's called Psychology and the Good Life. It's so popular in fact that millions of people from around the world have taken her happiness course on Coursera.

Laurie digs deep into the data and reviews all the studies to understand the scientifically proven ways we can boost our emotional state. Like any good thing in life, it takes practice and it takes time. But if you can make it a habit, it could be life changing.

Loved my interview with Don Lemon. I may not agree with everything he says but I do admire his authenticity, his insatiable curiosity, and his desire to get to the truth.
