I had the most amazing interaction today!!! I firmly believe that intuition is real and you should listen to it, not only for safety but it could lead you to amazing experiences like mine did today!
After work, I got a really strong urge to stop at TJ Maxx (I really love their earrings). I went in, and began browsing my usual way, starting with handbags and leading into jewelry.
This mom with two elementary school aged children came into the jewelry section and her daughter was asking to see and purchase a necklace from the case. The necklace was $20 or less, but the mom was expressing how this was a special necklace and it couldn’t just be tossed around the room or left on the floor. The boy, who was younger than the girl, was in the cart, but wanted to look at jewelry too. Mom got him out and he was looking at stuff.
By this point, I had moved onto fragrances and other body products because I found a few pieces of jewelry that spoke to me, but nothing that really screamed “buy me!“
The mom and the kids eventually came up to me in the fragrance section. Mom asked, “do you mind if my son sees your jewelry so he can see that it’s OK for boys to wear jewelry if they want to? He wanted to buy a necklace, but now is second-guessing it thinking that boys can’t wear such things.“ So I begin to show him my bracelets, my earrings, and my pins on my school badge and I explained that sometimes I buy necklaces and wear necklaces, but I chose not to wear one today.
When I got to the car, I burst into tears because this is the most amazing thing that she is teaching her kids! And that lesson, is that any thing you want is OK no matter what others say so long as it’s not hurting you or others and it makes you happy! She’s also teaching them, that everybody is different and those differences should be celebrated!
After the interaction, my urge to shop went away. I firmly believe, I was meant to show up and show out for that kiddo and show him true courage and strength to be his self, and that it’s OK to go against the grain and live authentically, love authentically, and be yourself unapologetically.
