Flying Military Space A is one of the best perks for U.S. military families! It’s a chance to travel the world for a fraction of the cost or even for free.

We’ve been doing this since 2016, from Germany to Hawaii, Texas, Singapore, Japan, and everywhere in between. Here are some quick tips for your first Military Space A flight:

🛫 Gear Up:
• Closed toe shoes only – no Crocs!
• Layers for those freezer cabins (looking at you, C-17s)- Generally grey tailed mission flights.
• Bring earplugs or noise canceling headphones.

💧 Stay Hydrated:
• Refillable water bottles are clutch – fill up after security & during the flight

🍫 Pack Smart:
• Snacks are a must. Meal service isn’t guaranteed, and you might be waiting on the flight line for a while.
• Bring cash for $6 meals, random fees, and snack bar splurges.

📲 Stay Connected:
• Download the GRAM from the terminal’s webpage for local base info, taxis, MWR services, lodging and more.

🗂️ Keep Your Docs Handy:
• Passports, DoD IDs, and MilConnect numbers for kids under 11.

If you didn’t already know, the most exciting thing we are currently doing is building our sailboat. I know it sounds crazy but we are so excited to live a life out of the ordinary.

What kind of Sailboat did we get?

Glad you asked! We purchased a Wharram Raka 36′ Catamaran, as seen above. That’s a sketch of our sailboat!

The coolest things about these boats are that they are made of wood, you can beach them, and their design is heavily influenced by the Polynesian culture.
