In Lieu of Flowers… is officially out today! Available on all streaming platforms (link in bio). Vinyl still available from WAR Records.
Limited edition emerald green vinyl out of 250.

Oakland’s Discourage return with their most urgent and punishing release yet, In Lieu of Flowers…, out this November on WAR Records. Known for blending the intensity of early 2000s hardcore with the chaotic edge of power violence, the band delivers a record that is darker, faster, and more volatile than anything they’ve done before.

Produced by drummer Matt Tyler with Marc Estabillo (Butchertown Studios, SF) and Alex Jacobelli (Sunsick Studios), the album features guest appearances from Meghan O’Neil (Punch/The Armed) and Matt Wilson (Set Your Goals/Worship). Lyrically, it dives deep into themes of grief, abandonment, and despair, carrying forward the heaviness of 2022’s Disaster Fatigue while pushing Discourage into harsher, more unrelenting territory.

In Lieu of Flowers… cements Discourage as one of the Bay Area’s most vital and uncompromising voices in modern hardcore.

Berthold City’s upcoming, No Brotherhood E.P., is due out Oct 31st on WAR Records. Preorder still available.

Los Angeles hardcore veterans Berthold City return with their new No Brotherhood E.P., a four-song 7” due out October 31st on WAR Records. Serving as the follow-up to their 2024 sophomore full-length, Where Did We Go Wrong?, the EP finds the band delivering their most urgent and uncompromising material to date. Once again produced and mixed by Nick Jett (Terror), No Brotherhood captures Berthold City at their sharpest, fast, aggressive, and unapologetically direct.

Formed by seasoned veterans of the hardcore community, Berthold City uphold the spirit of traditional hardcore while carving their own path with driving riffs, explosive rhythms, and lyrics rooted in conviction. Since their inception, they have earned a reputation for intense live performances and an unwavering work ethic, securing their place as one of Los Angeles’ most vital modern hardcore acts. Each member brings decades of experience, building on the foundation laid with their earlier bands and pushing the sound forward with renewed purpose.

With No Brotherhood, Berthold City condense their vision into four songs of raw power, bridging the genre’s timeless foundation with an urgency that speaks to the present moment.

Side One
1. Engine of Lies
2. Take it in Blood

Side Two
1. No Brotherhood
2. No Will No Way
