As part of our “How It Started” interview series, we had the pleasure of chatting with Jonathan Thomas McDermott, COO & Co-Founder of Stash Holdings Corp, a cannabis holdings company currently operating two highly successful retail stores and a consumption lounge in Illinois.

In 2019, it became clear to Jonathan that cannabis was a legitimate industry and that he wanted to be a part of it. His partner Matt Longo, CEO of Stash, approached him about applying for licenses in Illinois, and the rest is history. Today, Jonathan I spends most of his work day strategizing on the next opportunities for Stash, especially on expansion and acquisition plans.

As part of our “How It Started” interview series, we had the pleasure of chatting with Casey Flippo, CEO of Dark Horse Cannabis, a cannabis manufacturer specializing in edibles, concentrates, and other products for various brands and companies, with a significant presence in Missouri, Arkansas, and Mississippi, spanning both wholesale and retail aspects.

Casey started out in the h**p industry running one of the largest production facilities in his region. He was processing biomass from multiple states and business was booming, until the market collapsed practically overnight. Instead of folding, he pivoted into legal cannabis. Dark Horse became Arkansas’s first licensed processor in 2021, and has since expanded into multiple states.

As part of our “How It Started” interview series, we had the pleasure of chatting with Mark Gemignani, CEO of DAG, an industry leader in the planning, design and construction of Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA) facilities for cannabis cultivation.

With over 45 years of experience in construction and development, leading diverse projects across sectors like produce, retail, government and pharmaceuticals, Mark began noticing the growing demand in the cannabis industry. Recognizing a gap in the market, he saw an opportunity to apply his company’s expertise in building and developing facilities to support the sector, and their cannabis division, DAG, was founded around 2016.

Elevating The Cannabis Economy

The global perception of cannabis has long been negatively portrayed, but as the truth about this powerful plant becomes more palatable, the legal cannabis economy is booming. Long a hotly debated and partisan issue, cannabis now seems like one of the only things we can all agree on, and some of the biggest disruptions in the marketplace have nothing to do with getting high.

BudsFeed is community platform designed to elevate the legal cannabis economy and create conversation around the innovative products, services, and brands transforming the business landscape. Our weekly newsletter will keep you up to date on everything trending on BudsFeed, from new CBD serums, to seed-to-sale software, and of course new ways to puff for those who partake.

The newsletter is powered by the BudsFeed platform and a vibrant community of people ranging from cannabis enthusiasts to subject matter experts and pioneering entrepreneurs.
