Former captain Ricky Ponting has come out in support of Sam Konstas after his poor show in West Indies. Here’s what Ponting said on ICC Review:

“I’m not going to make any really harsh judgment calls on Sam yet because it was hard work for every batter in that series, there’s no doubt about it. They have to stick with him for a period of time and help him work through these deficiencies that he might have or might not have.”

Ponting is right. A talent like Sam Konstas should be given a longer rope.

Ricky Ponting has slammed the current Australian team management for ignoring Sam Konstas when they played in batter-friendly conditions of Sri Lanka and then picking him when they played in difficult conditions of West Indies.

“The Australians tried to protect him from what they thought was going to be a really difficult tour of Sri Lanka,” Ponting said on ICC review.

“They left him out there hoping to bring him in in the Caribbean where things might have been a little bit easier. Well, it’s been the exact opposite of that,” he added.

Ponting is spot on. It was a brainless call from Andrew McDonald and George Bailey.

Mitchell Owen says he is living his dream of traveling around the world and getting paid to play cricket.

In the last 8 months, Owen has won BBL, played in SA20, IPL, PSL and won MVP award in Major League Cricket.

He is set to make his T20I debut for Australia soon and reflecting on his 2025 so far, Owen said on Unplayable Podcast:

"It's just been on the go, so it's hard to have time to sit back and reflect on what the last six to eight months has looked like.”

"But it's cool, it's what I've always wanted to do and always dreamt of doing, is to play cricket around the world.”

Owen said the key to his success is that he takes 1 tour at. Time and always sticks to his process.

Ricky Ponting thinks Australia bowled West Indies out for 27 runs because the pitch and pink ball made life difficult for batting. On the ICC Review, Ponting said:

“I look at that last result where the West Indies have been bowled out for 27. That’s just not down to high-quality bowling. That’s down to the surface and the ball and all sorts of things.”

Weird to see a former Australian captain not giving full credit to the fast bowlers.

Australian cricket team coach Andrew McDonald has backed Sam Konstas again despite his failure in West Indies. In a chat with SEN Radio, McDonald said:

"Sam Konstas is a highly talented player. His skill set over time, I think we will see the real Sam Konstas and at the moment he's juggling with his aggressive nature, he's juggling his technique and the way he really wants to go about playing it.”
