EEEEK, IT’S FRIGHT NIGHT FOR THE 20TH TIME!

That’s right little ghost and goblins, East Helena is having their 20th Fright Night this year!! On October 31st, from 5-7 in Main Street Park – businesses will be open on Main St. for all of our spooky trick or treaters.
Then at dusk J4 Automotive will be playing their annual movie in the park with popcorn, hot chocolate, and delicious apple cider!! This year’s movie will be Ruby Gillman: Teenage Kraken!! Make sure to bring some blankets to snuggle up with while we all enjoy this year’s Fright Night!!

There is still plenty of good weather coming this season for you and your family to see Prickly Pear Park “up close and personal”!
Enjoy a stroll around Prickly Pear Creek, marvel at the Elkhorn Mountains, or watch for migrating birds in the wetlands. The slag pile south of the park is the last sign that this valley was an industrial site for over a century. Today, the wetlands, creek, and aspen grove provide abundant wildlife habitat. Beavers, sandhill cranes, moose, and deer are frequent visitors.

EAST HELENA BLOCK PARTY ~ Saturday ~ September 6 from 10-3

We will, as usual, have burgers and hot dogs along with cake, lemonade and iced tea. Precision said they were going to have a cotton candy machine and have some chalk for the kids to draw with. Missouri River Brewing Company will be at our parking lot with a cash only beer garden. Drae’s will have their kids carnival again and Vigilante gave us gift cards to have drawing for. Lots of giveaways’ and raffle prizes as well, this year we have a BBQ grill we are raffling off as well as a small kid’s bike, and a barbie camper playset. Your hosts include:

FROM POLICE CHIEF MICHAEL SANDERS
Question #1.) With our rapid population growth, are there significant increases in the amount of “crime” reports such as burglaries, drugs, car-jackings, etc.?
Answer #1 ). We have seen an increase in the number of Calls for Service in East Helena, which includes an increase in calls involving crimes. The increase mostly involves misdemeanor calls, not felony crimes such as burglaries, drugs, car-jackings. We are routinely involved in calls which include drugs but will not say there is an increase over the past few years. In comparing our Calls for Service totals in 2023 to 2024, the East Helena Police Department experienced an over 70% increase in call from 2023 to 2024. In July 2025, we had 578 Calls for Service, which is an all-time high for the East Helena Police Department.

Question #2) The homeless population in Helena is more problematic than ever. What about East Helena? How are we doing?
Answer #2.) Over the past two years, we have only been involved in a handful of calls involving homeless people. East Helena is doing very well, as we do not see many homeless people in East Helena. I believe the major reason for this is the lack of resources East Helena has for the homeless people. We do not have shelters or food distribution locations in East Helena for the homeless people.
