Flash Flood Alert Nationwide: NDMA Warns of Heavy Rains from August 23–30

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an urgent warning of heavy monsoon rainfall across Pakistan from August 23 to August 30, with a high risk of flash floods, landslides, and glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs) in mountainous areas.

Areas at risk include:

GB & KP (mountain regions): Gilgit, Skardu, Hunza, Ghizer, Diamer, Astore, Ghanche, Shigar; plus Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Mansehra, Battagram, Abbottabad, Malakand, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Mardan, Tank, Bannu, Lakki Marwat

Punjab: Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, Mianwali, Khushab, Sargodha, Sialkot, Gujrat, Hafizabad

Sindh: Thatta, Sujawal, Badin, Tharparkar, Hyderabad, Jamshoro, Nawabshah, Dadu, Khairpur, Sukkur, Ghotki, Larkana; and upper Sindh districts Jacobabad, Shikarpur, Kashmore, Shaheed Benazirabad

Balochistan: Lasbela, Khuzdar, Awaran, Qalat, Gwadar, Turbat, Kech, Panjgur, Quetta, Ziarat, Zhob, Loralai, Barkhan, Musakhel, Dera Bugti, Kohlu

What’s being done: NDMA has instructed authorities to prepare emergency plans, stock essential supplies, and ensure road clearance. Evacuation drills are underway, and rescue teams are on alert.

Public Warning: Avoid unnecessary travel near rivers, streams, and low-lying areas. Tourists are strongly advised to steer clear of glacier zones and unstable terrain.

A 13-year-old boy in Cairo tragically died after reportedly consuming three packs of uncooked instant noodles. Authorities confirmed that there were no signs of foul play, and initial findings suggest that excessive consumption of raw noodles may have caused severe digestive complications.

The Public Prosecution has ordered further investigations, including an autopsy and product testing, although preliminary reports indicate that the noodles meet food safety standards. Experts note that while instant noodles are widely consumed, eating them in large quantities without proper cooking can lead to intestinal issues.

Instant noodles, popularly known as Indomie in Egypt, remain a staple due to their affordability and convenience. However, health specialists emphasize moderation and proper preparation to avoid potential risks.

During this time, I had only two fears: how I would face my God and what would happen to my family. I urge you all to be regular with your check-ups. I am deeply thankful to my supportive family.”. She further added that this is her second life after recovery after going through a very hard time.
