3) Please do not post excessive links, inappropriate photos or videos, or material that infringes on copyright. Posts that violate any of these guidelines may be removed. We will try to contact you to explain the removal of your post, but we cannot guarantee we will be able to connect. Likes by Pioneer do not constitute endorsement. Sending love (and warm thoughts) to our Texas family. #PowerOn

Your co-op is doing everything possible to safely restore power to everyone in the community. It’s their first priority, and they will work nonstop until every member has power.

Since last Thursday, the weather has not only damaged your co-op’s electric system, it also has hindered their ability to restore power. Here are the facts:

Your co-op is responsible for distributing electricity from the power plant to your home. With this extreme weather, the demand for power in Texas far exceeds what the power plants can generate. Therefore, your co-op is receiving less power than what is required to keep everyone’s lights on.

During this crisis, co-ops have no control over how much power they receive. The same is true for all utilities that distribute electricity to the state’s homes and businesses. Power distribution is determined by a regional grid operator known as ERCOT. Quite simply, the subfreezing temperatures mean there is not enough power to go around.

Even though the freezing temperatures are forecast to continue for at least another 24 hours, the power supply should improve in all areas soon. Warmer weather will reduce some demand as ERCOT is working to get more power online, and additional co-op crews will be repairing the system.

Your co-op is doing everything possible to keep the poles, wires and transformers operating. As more power is available, they will make sure it flows.

Our Story

Welcome to our Facebook community for utility communicators. Are you a Ruralite magazine reader? We have a special page for you: www.facebook.com/Ruralite Pioneer Utility Resources, a co-op for utility communicators, is owned by almost 100 public power members across the nation. Instead of buying power, our members sign up for handy communication tools: magazines, newsletters, annual reports, directories, ballots, t-shirts, social media support, website services and more. Have an idea? We'll help you turn it into a reality. Any publicly-owned utility who uses our services regularly can become a Pioneer member. The only requirement is a written application and a one-time $10 membership fee. Members enjoy the privilege of voting for directors and bylaw changes. In addition, members participate in annual margin allocations through our capital credit program. A utility does not have to take the magazine to be a Pioneer member, but magazine membership adds special privileges. Interested? Learn more at www.PioneerUtilityResources.com.
