We interviewed Bruce Le

In the years following Bruce Lee’s untimely death in 1973, the absence of the first global Asian superstar left a lucrative void that producers throughout Southeast Asia were ready to fill. Throughout the ‘70s, lookalikes with pseudonyms like Bruce Li (real name: Ho Tsung-Tao) and Dragon Lee (Mo...

🚨 The Important Cinema Club Masterpiece Classics returns to Fox Theatre on January 23! 🚨

We are presenting a very rare screening of one of our fave movies: THE DRAGON LIVES AGAIN, a wild 'n' wacky 1976 kung-fu comedy. Bruce Lee goes to hell, where he fights bevy of pop-culture icons: James Bond, Dracula, The Godfather, The Exorcist, “Clint Eastwood,” Zatoichi, Emmanuelle, and more! This is a lot to handle even for the king of kung-fu, but he has a two-fisted ally in the form of… Popeye the Sailor.

Action-packed and shamelessly funny, this notorious kung-fu comedy will put a permanent cigarette-burn in your brain. Long available only in shoddy bootlegs, it’s been preserved from the only known surviving 35mm print by AGFA, finally revealing the this landmark of Hong Kong exploitation cinema in all its glory.

In the years following Bruce Lee’s untimely death in 1973, countless film companies across southeast Asia tried to cash in on his fame… and no “Brucesploitation” film was more outrageous than this one In a purgatorial underworld, Bruce Lee (played by future Kung Fu Hustle co-star Bruce Leung...

Our screening series at Fox Theatre returns on October 3 with one of the weirdest and wildest Canadian films ever made. Some have called it one of the worst movies ever made. Others have called it a one-of-a-kind DIY masterpiece. We believe that THINGS is what would happen if Bob & Doug McKenzie and Kenneth Anger created a mutant baby together.

In 1989, two friends in Scarborough, Ontario set out to make a haunted-house movie for the VHS market. Armed with a Super 8mm camera and a complete lack of filmmaking experience, Andrew Jordan and Barry J. Gillis made history. Some have called it one of the worst movies ever made. Others have called it a one-of-a-kind DIY masterpiece. We believe that THINGS is what would happen if Bob & Doug McKenzie and Kenneth Anger created a mutant baby together.

THINGS comes to the Fox Theatre on October 3!

The Important Cinema Club's Masterpiece Classics series returns to the Fox Theatre on August 15. We will be presenting Ed Wood's legendary Glen or Glenda.

In 1953, a 29-year-old aspiring writer/director named Edward D. Wood, Jr. landed a job directing an exploitation movie. The assignment: create something – anything! – to cash in on the case of Christine Jorgensen, the first widely known person to undergo s*x reassignment surgery.

Fox Theatre is proud to present the Important Cinema Club's Masterpiece Classics with a screening of Glen or Glenda, playing August 15 @ 7PM!

Wood, at the time a closeted cross-dresser, channeled his story into his art, casting himself in the genderfluid title roles. Blurring reality and fiction further, Wood also cast his real-life girlfriend, Dolores Fuller, as Glen’s unknowing fiancée. Mixing this naked autobiography with a mountain of stock footage and a slumming Bela Lugosi, Wood created a cinematic dreamscape that baffled grindhouse audiences.

Important Cinema Club Masterpiece Classics is proud to present the American Genre Film Archives’ preservation of a cult cinema landmark that grows more interesting every year. And remember… beware of the big, green dragon that sits on your doorstep – he eats little boys!
