Today 40 years ago (January 21st 1976) the Concorde had its first scheduled flight. British Airways flew their Concorde from Heathrow Airport to Bahrain, and Air France flew from Paris to Rio. In total, 20 Concordes were built and 14 flew commercially, 7 for Air France and 7 for British Airways. Concorde was one of only two commercial supersonic aircrafts to ever have operated. It could travel at more than twice the speed of sound and fly as high as 60,000 ft, to the edge of space. In November 1986 a British Airways Concorde flew around the world, covering 28,238 miles in 29 hours, 59 minutes.
Concorde recorded the fastest journey ever for a passenger aircraft from New York to London on 7 February 1996, taking 2 hours 53 minutes. After over 27 years in commercial traffic the final flight of a Concorde world-wide took place on 26 November 2003.

They are now focusing on new engine technology and looking for more fuel-efficient, modern engines consuming way less fuel.
Delta has previously bought used aircraft to fill its 100-seat aircraft needs. It subleased 88 used Boeing 717-200s from Southwest Airlines in 2012 and bought 20 used Embraer 190s from Boeing Capital in December as part of its strategy to shrink its 50-seat regional jet fleet.
