The Trump administration's budget for 2018 calls for a $200 million decrease; for a total of $19.1 billion. What does this mean? NASA’s buying power will be decreasing once again in 2018; continuing a nearly 30 year trend. Clearly, U.S. political leaders do not understand the enormous benefits delivered by a strong space program. This is unacceptable for it will lead to our decline.
To be great, a nation must do great things. Listen to the debates underway in Washington. Do you hear anyone talking about America stepping up to tackle any great challenge? One that will shape the fate of new generations far into the future?
Fortunately, a new generation of visionaries, Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, and Richard Branson among them, understand that the gravity well, currently holding us captive here on the surface of the Earth, is the next frontier for humanity. It is where the next economy will form and where the next generation of innovators will make their contribution to our progress.
In The Gravity Well I lay out the benefits to Americans that a small increase in NASA’s budget, along with policies that nurture new commercial space markets, can deliver for our security, prosperity and quality of life.
Take a look and then hold your elected representatives accountable for making sure America leads the way off of planet Earth and reaps the rewards of exploring and settling this new frontier.
