Key takeaways from directing NBA legends in A LEGO spot. Link in comments.
1) Having the right talent is everything! Karl and Myles share a passion for sports, cars, gaming, and LEGO building. They are never “Acting,” which is awesome. All of their reactions are genuine.
2) LEGO is universal. It doesn’t matter if you’re 4 or 104. If you’re tall or small, LEGO unifies us all! Karl was so stoked to build a LEGO Corvette Stingray with Colin. And this is a guy who plays in NBA playoffs - he wants to hang out and build LEGO with us- too cool!
3) Building bonds with talent during downtime. Myles and I bonded about over our LEGO collections, first LEGO sets, and memories of building LEGO with our dads. Those core memories make a lasting impression that we carry through adulthood.
4) These athletes care about their community and give back in huge, meaningful ways - mentorship, charity, building a basketball centre in DR. Inspiring to see role models be selfless.
5) The Digital Wizards crew was able to move quickly, capture key moments, live action and gaming, stream to remote clients, make talent comfortable, and stay flexible!? I’m working with a dream team here!
6) Prep, Prep, and more prep make for an easy (ish) shoot day. Sure, there are still surprises, but we had a schedule, a plan, all the right talent, gear, and everyone on the crew supported each other in a big way!
7) Agency support - Team Whistle is a fantastic partner, and the leadership of Nick Peet, Dustin Thaler, John Shim, Casey Rieger, Becky Donoso and the team is a huge reason why we’re set up for success.
