One of the most impressive releases of 2025 occurs through this Greek progressive/folk metal outfit Passengers in Panic and their second full-length Amnesia. Breathtaking hooks and a seamless blend of traditional Greek instrumentation next to heavy metal keeps every song fresh – captivating those who love the versatility that this genre embodies. We fired off some questions to learn more about the group, their songwriting / lyrical themes, viewpoint on live performances, favorite albums, concerns about the world, and what’s on the horizon. Learn more about the band from guitarist Lela Argyri, bassist Lefteris Christou, and vocalist Yohanna Galani. https://deadrhetoric.com/features/passengers-in-panic-representing-a-safe-haven/

These short EP’s serve a purpose in a modern world looking for the quickest entry point to a band’s catalog without a long engagement. At 13 minutes Prevail for In/Vertigo should appeal to a lot of classic hard rock/metalheads who enjoy say LA Guns as much as Buckcherry, plus the occasional left field move into more energetic, octane fueled punk/thrash. https://deadrhetoric.com/reviews/in-vertigo-prevail-rockshots-records/

While it has some high points, Thaumaturgic Veil truly suffers from having too much meat on it’s bones. Trimming out the instrumental/interludes would make this a vastly stronger listen and one that’s deserving of the urgent and compelling death metal that sits in there. As is, it’s hard to recommend due to it’s formatting and layout. A frustrating listen. Viogression https://deadrhetoric.com/reviews/viogression-thaumaturgic-veil-self-released/

Progressively complex yet emotionally deep is a concept that few bands can pull off, but Israel’s Scardust have managed to thrive on that idea since their first release. Embodying a theatrical and whimsical sound that lends itself to a certain emotive richness while still delivering the technicality that progressive music fans crave, they have managed to up the ante with each new album. Thus enters Souls, an album that sees them incorporating even more diverse elements into their cinematic vision. We spoke with vocalist Noa Gruman to get a greater understanding of the band’s latest album and it’s concepts, their metal Disney princesses medley video, the band’s ten year history, and her hobby of designing stage outfits. https://deadrhetoric.com/features/scardust-theatrical-souls/

Gods of Tomorrow have a lot to be proud of in this record. They have a great mix of melodic hard rock and classic metal influences – tying them together in such a way that will probably satisfy the thirty-something and above hordes more than any other group of followers. We’ll have to see where they go from here – as the future looks bright from the onset. https://deadrhetoric.com/reviews/gods-of-tomorrow-gods-of-tomorrow-wormholedeath/

Edge of the Abyss is a journey of an album that should be absorbed multiple times in order to grasp everything that Calva Louise has put together for this album. From the conceptual story to it’s accompanying sci-fi and futuristic sounds, grounded in occasional dabbling into chaotic and melodic scurrying, there’s just nothing that sounds quite like it. Worth a solid investigation if you are looking for music that is incapable of sticking to the traditional boundaries and revels in tearing them up. https://deadrhetoric.com/reviews/calva-louise-edge-of-the-abyss-mascot-records/

Cultivating their sound over a number of singles and an EP prior, Dead7 signed with Sharptone Records for their first full-length, Love What You Can While You Still Have Something Left to Love. Rooted in the metalcore formula, but willing to take sonic risks with some melodic, atmospheric, and haunting melodies, dead7 find themselves on a more unique ledge than many of their brethren. We spoke to vocalist Jason Kozik and heard his thoughts about how the band has progressed their sound, what to expect from their full-length debut, advice the band has been given, and even some of his favorite hobbies. https://deadrhetoric.com/features/dead7-experimental-core/

Veins of Sulfur keeps the melodic death metal movement alive, especially to modern audiences who want a bit of progressive or groove-laden elements to spice up the sound. Starlit Pyre checks off all the boxes for those who love this genre, incorporating a mix of the past with the present to devil horns high appeal. https://deadrhetoric.com/reviews/starlit-pyre-veins-of-sulfur-self-released/
