Another update about the rookie, the first season has ended and I think it was a good first season. Very different than castle much less emphasis on the romance and much more stories about police work and the dynamics of the officers. I hope he gets a second season and if you’re a Nathan Fillion fan you check it out

They have announced that Take Two is officially cancelled. I’m not surprised but still disappointed.

Jesse here - I liked the 2nd episode of The Rookie as well. Nathan is the driving force behind me watching the show but a couple of the other characters are peaking my interest as well. Ratings don't look good, so not sure the fate of the show but so far, it's been a good (if not great) hour of TV each week.

Jesse here with my thoughts on The Rookie. Spoilers ahead....

I liked it. Nathan is very likable of course. I like the concept of reinventing yourself. I'm not sure if it is smart to have him involved with Lucy not just because of the age difference (I'm sure the shared Police Academy experience makes them feel like peers/equals despite the age difference) but because it seems foolish to become emotional involved with someone this early in the journey. And the actress Melisa O'Neil who plays Lucy was great in Dark Matter and I really like her on this show as well so far.

I liked the rest of the cast. They training officers are just rough enough to make me feel like they are trying to get the best out of the new officers and to wean out those who should not be in this important role.

It isn't Castle and it sure isn't Firefly but it's a decent procedural and with the charm of Nathan and the rest of the cast, I'm in for now.

THIS MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS FOR "THE ROOKIE"
Kathy here...watched Nathan's new show tonight and while an okay enough cop show, had some issues right off the bat. Since it has been promoted as being from the same folks who started Castle, I expected a little more levity in some spots. I didn't expect it to be a yuck it up, but it was all drama all the time. To me, that takes away any uniqueness for the show. It's just one more cop show. The thing I had a big problem with is the fact that Nathan's character is dating a girl young enough to be his daughter. To me again, considering Nathan is an executive producer, this seems like a vanity aspect. I'm sick of these older guys always dating young girls. In addition, the male training officer is kind of a jerk. I don't like his attitude and I think as hot an issue cops picking on minorities is, I didn't like that they went there.

I'll give it another week or two, but I am not anticipating this being a regular watch for me. Nathan's charm is one of his biggest strengths. They are not utilizing this at least in tonight's episode to their detriment.

Not sure if Take-Two will get a 2nd season but I enjoyed the first season. Enough of the good stuff of Castle but still unique. I would like to see what they do with a 2nd season.
