Happy 86th birthday today to Bronx born Dion DiMucci... In the summer of 1958 he had his first hit with The Belmonts beginning a streak of 9 chart entries that ended in 1960 when Dion and the Belmonts split to pursue solo careers. Though the Belmonts went on to post 8 more chart entries (including one backing up Freddie Cannon), it was Dion who remained a hit maker. From 1960 through 1989, Dion has been on Billboard’s chart 30 times, including 9 top 10 hits and one that hit #1 (Runaround Sue). His last top 10 hit was 1968’s ‘Abraham, Martin, and John. If you check in on his page, you see Dion’s still in great voice in the videos he posts. Happy birthday Dion – hope this is your best birthday yet – and thanks for all the tunes…

While most artists at the time would lip synch their performances on tv, she would sing hers live, proving her voice wasn't created in the studio.

Connie Francis paved the way for a lot of female singers that came after her - a lot...she was 87...
