This piece is called: The Journey of Empowerment and this is the story below.
The Journey of Empowerment is a story that began with our Elders and their journey through womanhood, motherhood and sisterhood and how they navigate through their life challenges and the importance of our culture being shared with our young people.
The five circles represent all women in our Indigenous communities and how we come together to share our life experiences and collectively empowering each other through our cultural teachings.
The four women sitting symbols represent our elders and mothers as they teach us young people on how to respect our elders and others around us. While also letting us be children as we play in the yard freely, as our mother watches us from a far.
Us young people are enjoying much laughter together, as we make memories with our siblings and cousins through playing in nature. This teaches us the importance of family and why it’s so important to listen to our elders and mothers, as they continue to teach us about our culture.
As I’ve grown up and had my own child, I now can see all the things that I couldn’t see before and now, I can see your point of view through the eyes of my mother. I see you and how you carried yourself for all of those years and continued to raise all of your children, without any complaints and how you pushed through many of those dark times and constantly showing up for your children. You have shown me your strengths and dedication; I thank you for being you.
This is what this design is about, The Journey of Empowerment through my mother and her mother and too all of the strong women out there, they are the real heroes.
