⚠️ MONDAY SEVERE WEATHER THREAT – NORTHERN IOWA ⚠️
A potentially strong storm system is setting up for Monday, mainly impacting northern Iowa into southern Minnesota and Wisconsin. While not everyone will see storms, the environment will be capable of producing severe weather if storms can develop.
Warm, humid air will surge northward Monday, with temperatures and moisture increasing across the region. At the same time, colder air higher in the atmosphere will move in, creating an unstable setup.
However, there’s a catch — a “cap” of warm air aloft may act like a lid, preventing storms from forming for much of the day.
If storms are able to break through the cap, conditions will support large hail and damaging wind gusts. In addition, a tornado threat cannot be ruled out, but this may stay north of Iowa.
The biggest question is whether storms can actually develop. Many times in setups like this, the cap prevents storms entirely until after dark — or limits how widespread they become.
Right now, the highest risk appears just north of Iowa, but northern Iowa is still included in a Level 2 (Slight Risk) for severe weather.
